Car description |

Nobody built a bad-looking car in 1934, but Dodge managed to make their affordable cars look upscale and elegant. If you're looking for an awesome Mopar alternative to the usual Fords, this gorgeous 1934 Dodge 5-window coupe has a lot to offer, ranging from a 400 cubic inch V8 to all the creature comforts, all wrapped in one of the most stylish designs of the period. This is an older build that still looks great, and that's because they didn't go with what was trendy at the time, but rather timeless details that will always look good. The body and front fenders are original 1934 steel, while the rear fenders are fiberglass, probably because parts for these Dodges are none too easy to come by. The burgundy and gray paint job adds to the elegant look and splitting the colors along the factory body lines makes it look like they intended for it to look this way all along. There are signs of use and age, but we can guarantee that you will show up and have the only 1934 Dodge coupe at any show. The hood is beautifully detailed, so much so that it looks custom-made, but no, the bodywork is just the way they did it when it was built. No chopped roof, no shaved handles, and the only notable deviation from stock is the removal of the rear-mounted spare tire. The ram hood ornament proves that Dodge has been Ram Tough since day one, and even the fabric roof insert is 100% intact. The interior captures a luxurious look from the past, using pleats and comfortable fabrics to create an interior that's not so different that what it might have had in 1934. Of course, it's been considerably upgraded, including a tilt steering column, digital LED gauges, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit. There's also an in-dash CB radio, which, while not functional, will give you an idea of this car's build date. A 4-spoke steering wheel with a proper Chrysler logo on the horn button makes it look very complete, and details like the crank-open windshield and original door hardware make it feel suitably vintage. It's spacious for two, and if you want a rod for a road trip, this car's large, fully upholstered trunk makes it ideal for going places. The 400 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 fits neatly under the hood, putting big block cubes in a small block package. It's not detailed for show, but it works rather well, starting easily and moving with genuine authority. There's a Holley carburetor up top, an Edelbrock intake manifold, Mallory Unilite distributor, and stock ram's horn exhaust manifolds, all proven performers that make this car both reliable and powerful. Service access is decent, even with all that hardware packed in there, and there's nothing here that will be unfamiliar to a local mechanic. The front clip is the original independent front suspension customized with power front disc brakes and power steering, and with new shocks it rides and handles rather well. A TH350 3-speed automatic powers a Ford 9-inch rear end, so the powertrain is proven and sturdy, and with new shocks up front and air shocks in back, it rides surprisingly well. A newer Flowmaster exhaust system sounds great and it sits right on a set of Cragar chrome mags with 205/70/14 front and 255/70/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials.Unique and well built, this handsome Dodge brings a lot of unique features to the party, plus some old stand-bys that ensure it'll be reliable for another 20 years.
