Up for auction is a stunning original 1960 DeSoto Adventurer 2-door Hardtop. Of the 3092 units produced for 1960, this could be the nicest unrestored one in existence.
This is a survivor vehicle with mostly original paint, original interior, original drivetrain, glass, chrome, etc. This car has been garaged every night since 1960, and is 99.9% rust-free. A Colorado car since day one... with just 63,840 miles on the clock.
Vehicle still has its original 383-2bbl engine and automatic transmission along with power steering, power brakes, Solex glass and cruise control. There is a thick folder of documentation with the car, including two broadcast sheets and the original invoice from the day this beauty was purchased... At $4525.54, this was not an inexpensive vehicle in 1960!
The body does have nicks, dings and a few shortcomings, but it is rock-solid and shows incredibly well. The interior is spectacular. This car has been mechanic owned, and in the 18 months has received much service and attention.. Car starts immediately (using its original aluminum keys, of course), purrs flawlessly, and is an absolute blast to drive! Details below.

BACKGROUND: This car was purchased brand-new at Reed-Fennell Motors in Denver, Colorado on April 28th, 1960. The invoice is pictured and of course goes with the car.
It was driven sparingly for 21 years, from 1960 through 1981 - the date of its last registration sticker - which still appears on the windshield.
For the next 35 years it was stored in a garage - covered - until a friend of mine purchased the car in 2016.
As a full-time car mechanic and hardcore MoPar enthusiast, he began the process of reconditioning the vehicle to make it fully roadworthy. I have extensive documentation and receipts of his work, most of which is described below. Since I have owned the car, I've made further improvements.
CONDITION - In no particular order:
SHEET METAL: Every piece of sheet metal is original to the car except the passenger front fender. At some point in the distant past this fender was hit and replaced with a junkyard fender. It presents adequately, but it does have some filler in it and it is not a top-notch repair. I have an extra fender that goes with the car that will need some work, but it a very clean piece.
The rest of the metal is original and 99.9% rust-free as mentioned. There are bumps and nicks here and there, and the fender tops are a little wavy from mechanics leaning over them. But overall the body is in stunning original condition and blows minds everywhere it goes. Look at all 300+ pictures please!
PAINT: As mentioned already the paint is *mostly* original. The damaged front fender was painted at the time of its accident long ago, and has had a couple touch-ups on it since. I also believe the passenger door to have been blended-in, but otherwise the paint is original. Paint is nicked, worn, and peeling in places - in particular on the driver's door and fender eyebrows, but it still presents incredibly well overall and adds to the survivor look.
TRIM: Stainless is very nice. A few dings and light scratches. Passenger door trim lightly crunched at the front and could use some attention, but overall stainless is extremely presentable. The chrome is excellent overall and all-original with zero pitting.
GLASS: Solex glass is all-original and in incredible shape. The windshield in particular is stunning and clear, with no delamination.
WEATHERSTRIP: It varies from good to perfect - but this is really where you can see that the car has always been stored inside. There is some degrading on the door glass seals, but nothing to point that one would consider replacement.... Overall, I've never seen 60-year-old automotive rubber this nice... Look at the decklid weatherstrip and channel - including the original MoPar part number - and you'll see that the car was never parked outside.
INTERIOR: As already stated, it is all-original and gorgeous; I am confident you will not see another 58-year-old interior that looks this nice, anywhere, on any vehicle. The headliner board is stunning. Visors perfect. Door panels are not perfect but are very, very nice. Steering wheel is excellent! Even the original woven windlace is still nice! Look at the pictures. With that said, the following caveats apply: The carpet is a brand-new ACC molded piece, as the previous carpet was an unsuitable replacement. There is one rip in the side of the driver's seat bottom cushion - pictured. Both front armrests are starting to come apart. There are various cracks and splits in the original plastic and vinyl, but nothing serious.
DRIVETRAIN/MECHANICAL: A tremendous amount of reconditioning was performed to this car to make it reliable enough to drive at a moment's notice, and every day if desired. It drives SMOOOOOTH. I have receipts for all the work, including but not limited to:
New leaf spring packs assembled from correct original MoPar leaves. New shocks. Fuel tank dropped and flushed. Driveshaft rebuilt. Transmission flushed. Fresh 3:91 Sure-Grip chunk installed. Correct 14" wheels freshly powdercoated. Four brand-new Goodyear Super-Cushion tires. Rebuilt carb. Tune-up. Fuel sender replaced, etc, etc.
BRAKES: Brakes are completely fresh; Drums turned, new shoes, new rubber hoses, lines flushed, etc. The car stops very well. The Kelsey-Hayes accordion booster is intact and functioning as it should.
OTHER: A really nice new exhaust system with an X-pipe was installed; it looks and sounds great. I have 8 correct original hubcaps but haven't installed them as I like the current look, but they go with the car. Most everything works - Fuel level, Speedometer, Gauges, Horn, Glovebox door, Door and trunk locks, etc. Even the cruise control seems to work but I haven't really tested it out. Original trunk cardboard and rubber mat! Original Spare! Car does not overheat!
OTHER SHORTCOMINGS: Car does not pull, but the steering wheel is off-center a bit. Some clunks from front end over larger bumps - car will probably will need control arm bushings at some point. Heater core was leaking and has been bypassed; the core needs repaired or replaced. Car does drip a couple drops nightly.

I've been asked several times this morning why the dealer invoice states that the car was sold with a radio and dual rear antennas, but they aren't on the car. Simply said... I have no idea.
The car's broadcast sheet- which can be viewed by clicking the picture link above - clearly showsa"3" under antenna, and *nothing* under radio. Perhaps antenna code "323" means "antenna delete"? I don't know.
I doknow that I have thoroughlyinspected the quartersinside and out, and I can tell you this: 1. Noantennas have ever been on this car.2. This isn't the first time I've had an old MoPar with a head-scratching discrepancy like this. It certainly doesn't take away from what is here!
