Car description |
---|
Up for auction is my 1950 Desoto Club Coupe. I am selling as I don't have time to play with cars anymore. I bought the car about 3 1/2 years ago from a guy that bought it from the original family in WY. The car was literally driven by a little old lady from Rock Springs WY. She drove it back and forth to the train station in Rock Springs. It has the straight flathead 6 cylinder with fluid-drive transmission which shifts great.
I will explain in more detail the various areas.
Engine-I haven't done anything major to the engine except changing water pump, oses, elts, blade fan from 50 Dodgetruck, arb rebuild. She starts fantastic and idles beautifully. There is some blowby on decel. It could be a matter of not havemiles on her and needing to be driven. She doesn't heat up at idle or while driving even in the summer heart.
Exhaust-I had the exhaust replaced when I bought her.
Brakes-I installed 4 wheel disc brakes using the AAJ Brakes kit along with 2lb residual valves. It has a new single bore master cylinder. I drove it about 300 miles likes this but now the pedal goes to the floor. I haven't had time to get under there to see what is going on but I am sure something very simple. Also, he emergency brake works great.
Electrical-all the brake, urn signal, eadlights, ash lights work. The backuplights do not work. I have replaced both rear lenses. They are bright at night!!!
Interior-I had the interior redone in 2014 including headliner, oor panels, eats and carpet. The seat material looks very "period" correct.
Body/paint-the paint is all original except for the passengers rear fender which I swapped as the original was bashed in and unsavable. The paint is perfect for patina. There is a picture that shows how it could shine with buffing.
Suspension-the rear suspension is all original with no lowering blocks. I was a fool and cut the front springs but I do have the Aerostar springs that go with the car. I had all new tie rods installed when I did the front suspension work.
Tires/wheels-she rides on original 50 Desoto wheels painted tan with the original wheel covers. I bought wide whitewall tires from Diamondback last year.
She is really a nice old car that hasn't been monkeyed with and gets a TON of looks. With the exception of the brakes she is ready to hit the road in style. Plus, o see a 2 door Desoto is a rare sight.
Also, his is the "Custom" model.
I do have the car for sale locally so I reserve the right to end auction early.
Thank you for looking.
