For sale is a 2-owner 1976 Datsun 280Z 2+2 with original 4-speedMANUALtransmission. This coupe was purchased from its first Californian owner 5 years ago and shipped to Texas in a covered trailer. Since then, it's always been garaged. The Z has not seen any precipitation under my ownership, but it was also barely driven--just not enough time to enjoy it.
The Z remains mostly original except for period-correct modifications either imported from Japan or refinished. No expense was spared when sourcingand upgradingparts. The headlight covers, fender mirrors, and wood steering wheel areORIGINALDatsun parts. TheRAREsingle-knob rally date/clock has been updated to quartz movement by Z-Clocks and is inWORKINGcondition. The wheels are retro SSRLongchampXR-4 15"--staggered 8-inch rear/7.5-inch front--WITHcenter caps, and 90-5% tread remaining on Yokohama AVID Touring 205/60R15 tires. (The bolts have been refinished in yellow zinc.) The engine bay is clean, and the engine inspection light works. The seats are original withNO TEARS, and the rear seat has been fitted with aRAREAMCO pull bar. The rear louver has been repainted and includes the key for locking the shade. The hatch sits on top of Euro/JDM taillights. The undercarriage shows very little surface rust, as all suspension had been replaced in June 2019 by a Z specialist shop in Ft. Worth--polyurethane bushings on Eibach Progressive springs and KYB struts with wheel alignment. The air filter and oil filter are OEM Datsun. In fact, everything was restored, installed, or modified by either a professional mechanic or body shop.
The body was repainted in its original color--light blue metallic (paint code 305) by the original elderly owner, and all of his service records were meticulously documented in a large binder to be included with the sale. Also included will be all theORIGINALparts: left-side mirror, USDM taillights, steering wheel, 4-speed shift knob with green shift pattern, and all "Datsun" and "2+2" emblems. The 280Z emblems still show the orangish red epoxy, and I'll even include another set of 2+2 quarter panel emblems (imported from Japan) with full orange/red epoxy. There is also an unopened box ofCOMPLETEweatherstrip kit from Z Car Source that will be included. The bumper is the large DOT-mandated chrome, but the black rubber bumper trim are all inGOODcondition with minimal cracks. It even has theORIGINALspare tire and tool bag.
There are only a couple of issues I know of: 1) All the interior and exterior lights work (including center console) but the hazard light does not flicker. I have another hazard switch that I'll include; 2) The motorized antenna works, but does not go down completely--6 inches remaining. The fenders are not cut (too clean), andthe Retro-Spec "victory" wing was attached with 3M double-sided tape. The louvers also slide under the weatherseal so the hatch is intact. The only part of the body that was modified was where the fender mirrors were installed. But the left side mirror hole was paint-matched and covered by the body shop. AC works but is R12. It does have a full dash cover and the radio was replaced by the first owner.
The Z starts rights up with a single turn.Sure, it's a 2+2and over 40 years old.But there are some neat additions (not all listed), and it's the cleanest one for sale. The car sits lower, shifts smoothly, brakes are tight, and the engine is responsive. It's been really fun to own and show. Now it should go to someone who will drive it more. This Z is also being advertised locally and with the Z car club, and I'll remove this listing if it's sold before the end of auction. Message me if you have any questions.
