Car description |
---|
1975 Datsun B210 hatchback. This vehicle was originally upgraded (customized) for the February 1976 Hot Rod magazine cover. 25 years ago the vehicle was disassembled for paint work and today it is offered for sale as a project, but a project with documentation and with the Datsun Competition parts used in the magazine build.
The vehicle has a clean title.
The original 1400cc engine was modified by Floyd Link in 1975. 12:1 Venolia pistons and moly rings were installed. Connecting rods were shot peened. Rotating assemblies were balanced. A hot camshaft was installed.
The cylinder head used in the conversion is a GX cylinder head, with a Datsun Competition intake manifold and dual Solex Mikuni carburetors.
The stock oil pump was replaced with a Datsun Comp (high performance) oil pump kit including a remote oil cooler.
When completed, the engine produced 125 hp on the dyno. [Stock hp was in the 75 hp range.]
The stock Datsun B210 4-speed transmission was replaced with a competition close ratio 5-speed, the Option #2 F5C56A transmission available through the Datsun Competition department. Nicknamed the ultra-close ratio transmission, 5th gear was 1:1. To reduce wheelspin, a Datsun Competition limited slip differential was installed.
The interior seats (front and rear) were removed and custom upholstered. The seats and the interior pieces are in good condition. They have been stored out of the sunlight for at least the last 30 years.
The exterior of the B210 had some modification. A front chin spoiler and a modified front grill were added to the car, and the front fenders are the fiberglass street car fenders from the Datsun Competition catalog. The rear quarter panels were modified slightly in steel to match the wheel arch and flare of the front fenders. Custom rear inner fender wells were made.
Currently the car is a rolling car with suspension and steering; and with the dash and main wiring harness in place. The car is 99% rust free as it spent almost zero hours on the road in winter and hasn't been driven in over 30 years.
Price for the car is $5000 USD. Why this price? Because just a few of the parts can be sold to the Datsun B210 and Datsun 1200 enthusiasts for more than the asking price. The 5-speed option #2 close ratio transmission easily brings $2500. [I know, I send them to Europe routinely.] The engine with the GX cylinder head and the dual Solex Mikuni carbs will easily bring $3500. The LSD unit will bring $500-700. The (4) American Libre 13x7 wheels will easily fetch $500, because they will fit on so many Datsun, Toyotas of the time. The dash, the factory tach and the interior panels are invaluable. I would not know how to value the individual interior pieces.
I WILL OFFER THE B210 FOR SALE UNTIL DEC 31. AFTER THAT I will take offers on the individual parts. I WOULD PREFER TO SEE THE CAR GO TO A GOOD HOME AND BE PUT BACK TOGETHER.
I have LOTS of Datsun parts, including B210 parts cars, so I can help if you find anything missing.
I CAN HELP with arranging shipping. A trailer and the back of a large pickup truck with a topper will carry everything needed. For transport I will install the engine and the transmission in the car and bolt everything down.
