1971 Datsun 240Z I bought this car here locally in July of 2005 with approximately 52. 00 miles showing on the odometer. The odometer now shows 70. 00 as I have only put 18. 00 miles on the car driving mostly on the weekends. I don't know if car now has 70. 00 or 170. 00 miles as it is undocumented. It has been religiously garaged and covered since I have owned it. This is a numbers matching car with very limited modifications. I have tried to improve upon the original condition of the vehicle upon purchase. Here is a list of the things that I have done since my purchase:1. Cross Drilled and vented disc brakes up front with (4) piston calipers2. Crane Electronic Ignition with new coil (have original points set up) 3. Taylor Spark Plugs4. Replaced Oil Pump5. New Clutch Master and Clutch Slave6. (4) New Sumitomo Tires in last (2) years - 90-95% tread left 7. All new carpeting. insulation and floor mats 8. Alpine CD Player with (4) Alpine Speakers. There are (2) 6"X9" Speakers in custom speaker box in hatch. I also placed (2) 6. 5" Speakers in kick panels. (I have original radio). This set up sounds great with windows down and cruising at 70 on the interstate. 8. K&N Air Filter 8. Replaced original exhaust pipe with 2" pipe and new muffler. Its a turbo muffler that is louder than stock but not obnoxious. 9. Regular fluid changes and tuning as needed 10. New Battery this past year ExteriorThe previous owner spent $3800 on a paint job in September of 2000. The paint has held up really well with some minimal chips / issues. The body is very straight for a 44 year old car. The previous owner also cut in a moonroof. Not my preference. but I don't drive in the rain and its kind of nice to have open on a nice day. Again. always garaged with car cover. InteriorThe interior is really in awesome shape. As stated above. I replaced all carpeting and insulation. The seats were already in great shape when I purchased the car. I would assume that they were refurbished at some point to their original condition. The dash has a dash cap. I would assume there are cracks in dash underneath cap. The weatherstripping could probably be replaced. This hasn't been important to me because I don't take it out in the rain. Engine / Drivetrain The engine pulls strong and has the original SU Carburetors that it should for a 1971. I checked compression soon after purchase and all cylinders checked out within acceptable ranges. The car shifts well through all gears. The transmission is leaking fluid and could probably use a rebuild at some point. Possible Concerns / IssuesThe main issue concerning rust is in the passenger frame rail. This is a typical area for early Z's. I have been watching this since 2005 and it has minimally progressed. The floor board is still very solid. There is very minimal "surface rust" in rest of undercarriage. There is NO rust in battery tray or hatch area. The clock. rear defroster and radio antenna are not working. This car has fresh air vents and a fan. This was a non-AC car out of the factory. The gas tank is dented. The filler hose from cap to tank may have a hole in it. SummaryThis car is a blast to drive and has been very dependable since the first day of ownership. I have taken many daily driving trips around the state with no issues. It has only been driven on nice days on the weekends. Always garaged kept! I have been "stuck" in the rain maybe (3) times over almost ten years. It gets compliments everywhere I go with complete strangers consistently wanting to talk about the car. I hate to part with this car. but it is time to move onto something else. Bottom Line: If you want a dependable great looking 240Z to drive and enjoy without breaking the bank. this may be the car for you. I can show car locally. Please do not contact me if not serious about buying with funds in place.
