Car description

Up for sale is a 1984 Nissan/Datsun 300zx. Please read the entire description before making an offer. I have put as much detail into this as possible.

This is the FIRST year of the 300zx, and the LAST year of the name Datsun used. The combination of those two makes this a much more desirable Z than later 300zx's.

This Z runs, drives, and stops great. The SOHC V6 used in this car remained unchanged for many years as Nissan engineered it with excellence. I have driven this car from Guilford, Connecticut, to Atlanta, Georgia and back. It has never broken down on me, and I don't think it ever will as long as it's properly maintained.

I have adored this 300ZX for many years, keeping all things maintenance up to date, bringing it to hundreds of car shows, and taking more pictures of it than you can probably imagine. I am a member of the Z Car Club of Connecticut, and have surrounded this Z with ASE certified technicians and Z experts. It has only received the best care under my ownership.

This car has driven on Lime Rock Park with the infamous Bob Sharp himself, twice. It has also been in one movie that is set to release in the upcoming year (Fry Day), as well as one of the biggest Netflix TV series in history (Stranger Things). Also driven it on the Tail of the Dragon (Definitely recommend it!)

This car was ordered by Universal City Nissan on 05/07/1984, one of the biggest and most prestigious Datsun dealers on the West Coast. Built on 04/14/1984, this Z was made at the Nissha-Hiratsuka plant, with the engine ID number VG30 101936. It was then shipped on 04/20/1984 on the Olympus Ace, and was in the dealership on 05/18/1984.

For over a decade it resided in California, until it eventually traveled to Riverside, Connecticut. From then on, it stayed in Riverside/Old Greenwich with approximately 87,000 original miles where it later presumably was involved in an accident in August of 2007. Here, it was given a salvage title. In June of 2009, it was given a REBUILT title in Kentucky, with 89,000 miles. By some stroke of coincidence, it ended up back in Connecticut, and eventually into my hands.

It comes with the original owners manual, the original spare tire tool kit, tire, and can of compressed air. It also has other miscellaneous brochures, maintenance booklets, and general Datsun books. It also has a binder full of paperwork and receipts from ALLDATA directions and parts purchased by me.

Off of the top of my head, the timing belt was replaced at 96,000 miles, 3 years ago. I verified last summer that the timing belt was still in excellent shape, no dry rotting whatsoever.

KYB Rear shocks and struts replaced at 98,000 miles

Mass air flow and throttle position sensor replaced at 99,000 miles.

Brake pads, rotors, and calipers were all replaced at 102,000 miles. System was flushed. 4 wheel disc brakes.

Brand new OEM cat back piping installed with a Magnaflow stainless steel muffler. 102,000 miles

Brand new headliner and carpet was installed at 105,000 miles. New tires mounted, balanced, aligned.

NGK copper spark plugs, cylinder head temperature sensor and all accessory belts replaced at 106,000

New battery, cap and rotor, crank angle sensor, vacuum lines, and air regulator installed at 107,000. Idle air control valve tuned.

New valve cover and intake manifold gaskets installed at 111,000.

New OEM fuel pressure regulator and temperature sensor installed at 116,000.

Other things to note:

AC system is original and functioning. It still has R12 refrigerant, so I am leaving it up to the buyer if they would like to convert it to new refrigerant or not.

The audio system was replaced by a previous owner with an Alpine system. Sounds great!

As stated, this is an original California car.

The car has a voice warning system that informs you if you left your lights on, a door open, or if you are low on gas. This is a factory option.

Full synthetic oil changes every 3-4500 miles. Air filter is replaced every other service, and tires are rotated every other service as well. Fresh synthetic oil change as of 3/24/2017.

As stated, it does have a rebuilt title. This does not hinder the registration process; nor should it intimidate you. The car is currently registered and insured with Hagerty.

With that said, this is a 33 year old car, it's not perfect. In it's condition right now, it is ready to be daily driven, but I would recommend replacing the power steering rack. This is a car designed for the handling and GT experience, but there is a slight amount of play in the steering hindering that feeling.

The differential's pinion seal does seep very lightly, but it is worth noting nothing leaves stains or drips behind. I do have the seal already as I had planned to do it. Lastly, I would recommend both CV boots be replaced, as those seep as well.

The paint is tired, possibly needs a buff, but a good 20 footer. For the most part, the body is extremely solid. There is a bit of rust by the passenger side pinch welds, which is almost negligible considering the lack of rust virtually anywhere else on the vehicle. The factory undercoating is still holding up strong today. The interior is virtually mint, however there is one small tear in the driver's side armrest. Luckily, it is an easy piece to remove.

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. I'm sure it's obvious, but I really do care for this car and want it to go to a good home. Unfortunately, I am a college student and my priorities have changed over the years. I do not have the time or money to enjoy this Z as much as I used to.
