CAR IS LOCATED IN CHARLOTTE, NC. CLEAR TITLE. ALWAYS A CAROLINA TRUCK. Spent whole life in SC/NC. I WILL POST THE REST OF THE PICS TOMORROW. It got dark here too fast tonight.

You are bidding on one very rare single headlight May/65-66 only 1966 Datsun 520 Pickup. PROJECT. 116K original miles!!! 4 speed of course. J13 1300cc Engine. All original and complete except for hubcaps, original jack and original fuse block and replacement rear bumper. I do have the original engine crank bar that allows you to turn engine over by hand through an access hole in the front bumper!!! Engine has new starter and turns over great. Compression is good and plenty of spark at points. However...I cannot get this to run. It has fired off a few times though. It appears the spark is weak or intermittentat the plugs....but I have no idea why. NEW: Condensor, Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Points, etc....Carburetor Cleaned, fresh oil change.
It want's to run...and has fired off a few times...but will not totally go. Very frustrating. I am not an electrical person...so since I can not get it going....I've decided to pass it along to someone more talented who has the electrical knowledge to figure it out. Has to be something simple...I just have other projects, that don't frustrate me, that I want to attend to, instead of banging my head against the wall :(
Truck is very solid where it counts: Bed is very solid...probably due to cool camper shell that was installed many years ago. All shankle and suspension mounts to frame are solid. Floors are mostly solid with one driver side repair done a long time ago. There is some rocker rust on passenger side...and a temporary rocker repair/cover on driver side. more of a cover, than an attemptat a repair. Tailgate works properly and has just a couple of rust through spots. Here are the details.
BODY: Has had a rough life...but all panels original...SEE PHOTOS. NO BONDO!!!! Windows roll up and down great. Some surface rust at bottom of doors on the inside. It was originally white...repainted a long time ago in current color. All glass is good. Bed is in awesome condition!!!! Front bumper has spots in it where looks like someone tried to tow it. Two spots of rust through on gate panel...see photos.
CHASSIS: Brake system condition unknown. All the wheels roll well....I never got it running, so I didn't begin refurbishing the brake system. E-Brake cable is broken. Suspension feels like it should for this era and age. Underside is clean for the era.
TRANSMISSION: Transmission operates in all gears...I had a friend tow me down the street in attempts to get it started. Clutch pedal inoperable...but does hold in each gear when being pulled off. Replacing master and slave cylinder would fix it...easy stuff.
ENGINE: Engine compression COLD 140/130/130/125 front to rear. I imagine once you get this running...the numbers will come up even more. Engine turns over great...I even have the original engine crank which fits through the bumper so you can turn engine by hand!!!! BRAND NEW: STARTER, PLUGS, CAP, CONDENSOR, ROTOR, POINTS. DOES NOT COME WITH A BATTERY. Radiator holds fluid and no leaks have been found coming from engine. Fresh oil change of course.
ELECTRICAL: As stated....I cannot get a strong enough spark at the plugs (at least this is my best diagnosis). Spark is very strong across points. The original fuse block has been replaced with blade type fuse connections. Much better in my opinion. Heater fan blows, wipers work, horn works sometimes, interior dash lights and exterior running lights working. Headlights do not work. I'm not an electrical person, so I have not investigated headlights. probably simple fix as everything else is working.
INTERIOR: Seat has been recovered poorly in the past...I removed it so you could see condition of original seat. Missing original factory radio and glass for rear view mirror. Otherwise in decent shape. I will have photos up tomorrow of interior.
WHAT WOULD I DO: Obviously...figure out spark issue....and you will have this running in no time. I have correctly set the ignition timing, double checked everything...and even got it to fire off a few times before giving up. Once running, I would have gas tank cleaned, get brakes and clutch hydraulicsworking and you will have a neat little truck to drive while you fix the body...if that's what you desire, or just have a nice around town pickup that will turn heads wherever you go. Tires are decent enough for around town use.
