Up for sale is a nice running, rivable, 968 Datsun 2000 Roadster.
Don't know much about the history of the vehicle. It was purchased from a used car dealer. Looks like the motor has been out of the car at some point as it and the tranny are very clean and has new paint on it. As smooth and powerful as it runs I'm guessing it was a total rebuild, o not know for sure. It was not running when I purchased it 2 years ago but was told by the dealer it ran fine when he took it in on trade 4 years prior.
It has a new gear reduction starter, new brake master cylinder, new brake wheel cylinders, nd new clutch master and slave cylinders. I changed the oil and oil filter, lushed the gas tank, uel lines, nd carburetors, ith new fuel, ut on a new fuel filter, nd cleaned and adjusted the points. The motor took off on the first click of the starter. It runs very smooth and the gears shift nicely. It is a fast and powerful very light car. I have had it up to 100 mph in fourth with another gear to go on my short dead end road.
The tires are Michelin XZ radials that hold air ok but are showing signs of fine weather cracking. As the picture shows there are the original baby moon hub caps but they do not fit the wheels that are on it, he small metal tabs that hold the hub caps are missing on the rims. The wheel in the trunk does have the tabs.
It needs a new ignition switch. It is currently started with two toggle switches, ne is a lightedon switch, so you know if its on)the other is a spring loaded start switch. The trunk lock is missing.
There are 2 nice headlight trim rings along with some other small parts for this car. Itshould have a new dash cover, 70 on EBay. The convertible top is usable but window plastic is bad, nly $250 for new top on Rock Auto. There are two cheap seat covers covering the original seats. The driver's side is seat is rough, assenger side not bad. Includes the tonneau cover in fair shape.
Body and frame are solid except for lower driver's side rear quarter as shown in photo. The main things this car needs are exhaust and paint.
I have a Chilton Repair manual for Datsuns of that time, nd also a very detailed parts manual with diagrams that cover every part on the car from The Roadster Store. These two books together are a really valuable time and money saver.
There are some missing knobs and other small things like the heater fan and wipers not working, t could just be fuses I have not looked into it. Car is basically complete. I removed the front bumper because I like the looks better without it, ut it goes with the car. Most of the chrome is rusty and will need to be rechromed or painted if you want a show car.
Drivable as is if you want a head turning rat rod, r put the time in the body for a rare awesome ride. I have never seen one of these on the road before anywhere, ou're guaranteed to get a lot of lookers in this roadster.
Please realize this car is 47 years old in rough but solid condition, ut it is a nice running drivable car with most all the mechanicals already done for you.
