1972 Citroen SM 5-speed
Rare ASC-sunroof model (only about 100-120 ASC sunroofs were installed by Citroen NA when the cars were imported when new). I had been searching for several years for the right car to rebuild and after looking at almost 20 different SMs, I bought this one for several reasons - I wanted a manual shift, ASC sunroof, good interior and no rust - this car checked off all those boxes. Thus very nice straight rust-free car. The 47,956 miles listed on the odometer is believed to be correct although odometer does not read past 99,999. Paint is in poor shape so will need a complete repaint. I had started removing trim from the car in anticipation of the repaint including bumpers, sidelights, rear lights, mouldings, etc - removed trim comes with sale. Look at detail pics of typical rust areas (lower front fender, back door corners, rear wheel well, rear trunk lid) - this car will need no rust repair so should be straight-forward strip and repaint. Interior is in very good condition - no cracks on dash, carpet has no holes (needs cleaning), leather is in good condition although driver's seat does show some wear. The drivetrain is removed from the car - the original 2.7L engine was damaged and I sourced a larger 3.0L engine as used on the 1973 SM - these highly coveted engines are hard to find and a used engine can sell for $7,500-plus. I removed the 3.0L from a 1973 automatic which had transmission problems and engine was running at the time but I would suggest replacing chains, head gaskets, exhaust valves and waterpump seal. This is about as easy an SM project as can be found out there and I can help with any replacement parts needed and even steer you towards a capable mechanic to handle the mechanical work. The car does not have a title and will be sold with a Bill-of-Sale.
