Car description

Up for sale is a 1985 Chrysler New Yorker Sedan! It's in relatively good shape for it's age and runs/drives/stops just fine. Floor pans and underside of car are very clean. The clearcoat is faded/peeling/flaking/etc. Vinyl half roof is in great condition and is still soft. Typical scuffs, dings, dents, etc from being used for the last 33 years. The opera lights still light up! Unfortunately, one of the center caps for the wheel covers is MIA.
Interior is in great shape minus the headliner drooping. The dash pad is in nice shape with no cracking. Digital instrumentation works just fine. Yes, this car talks to you and the voice alert system works great. I replaced the front and rear speakers so the radio sounds pretty decent for what it is. The cassette player works, too. There is rear reading lamps and they function. Power windows all work. Power locks mostly work. The actuator on the rear passenger door has seized up so it's been unhooked. Power mirrors work. Steering column has tilt. Intermittentwipers work. Cruise control is sometimes ornery about setting but does work. Heat works great, a/c acts as if it's low on charge. It probably could use some new seals to behave. Vent positions change fine. Cigarette lighter works.
The engine runs very well. It has the 2.6L Mitsubishi 4 cylinder engine and a 3 speed automatic transmission. Original carburetor from what I can tell, still works fine but like most of these cars is a bit cold blooded when you first start it. Lots of maintenance recently performed. New spark plugs, plug wires, distributorcap, distributor rotor, valve cover gasket, fuel filter, air filter, and pcv valve just replaced. The exhaust behind the catalytic converter from the pipe to the muffler and even a nice chrome tip are all new. Both right side inner and outer tie rod ends replaced. Alignment was performed. Has three newer matching tires, one oddball one but still in good shape. Has newer front struts and cv axles. The car could use a new oil pan gasket as it leaks and the engine bay would benefit from a nice cleaning.
All in all, it's a good car that's at a good "in between" phase of it's life meaning that it's a good candidatefor restoration OR you can use it as a get around everyday driver and have it last for a while especially if you keep it out of the salt. I drove it up to the Rockford area from St. Louis (about a 300 mile drive going 70-80 MPH the whole time) and it was a very pleasant drive. The reason I'm letting it go is because I've told myself time and time again that I can only keep one old Chrysler around and it got beaten out by a 1992 Chrysler LeBaron convertible with a V6 and a 5 speed so it's more fun for me to drive. If I had the extra space, I'd keep this too as it's super plush and really has a cool old car charm that's not been duplicated for me since these old K (and K based) cars.
Okay, the nitty gritty. This is a 33 year old car that is long past it's 5 year 50,000 mile protection plan so therefore it is being sold on an AS IS basis. Buyer is responsible for shipping and/or picking up the car. A $500 deposit via Paypal is required within 24 hours of winning the auction, otherwise it will be relisted. No refunds. Feel free to check out the car beforehand if you like. Final amount after deposit needs to be paid by cashier's check, personal check, or cash within 72 hours of winning. Either check option means the car and title get held until they clear which takes as long as the bank deems necessary which is usually 14 days. There is a bus station in Rockford that I will happily pick you up from so you can take the Amtrak or fly into O'hare and take the bus to here. Finally, the vehicle needs to be picked up within 30 days of winning the auction. Thank you for your consideration!
