1962 Corvette in Tuxedo Black over Black. 327ci / 360hp with Fuel Injection (RPO 582), ncluding the Duntov high-lift solid-lifter camshaft and high-speed valve train, nd 4-speed transmission. Rare RPO 687 Heavy-Duty Brakes and Steering option (one of only 246 made), .11 positraction rear end, and dual front sway bars. Matching hard top, long with a black soft top, signal seeking AM/FM radio, 5 x 5.5-in steel wheels w/ passenger car hubcaps and correct B.F. Goodrich "Silvertown" blackwall tires. Older restoration showing perfect patina and mellowing, ighlighting its aggressive triple black color combination.

Sold new by Humphrey Chevrolet in Evanston, llinois, his example is one of only 246 Corvettes produced in 1962 with the RPO 687 "Heavy-Duty Brakes and Steering" package, hich included special front and rear shocks, ir scoops to feed cool air to the brakes, pecial finned brake drums with ingenious internal cooling fans, etallic brake linings, nd a quick steering adapter. With performance in mind, his option required RPO 582, he legendary 327 / 360hp fuel injected V8, s well as a positraction rear axle. Furthering its high performance chops, lso included are dual front sway bars, ff-road exhaust, nd a 4-speed manual transmission. An auxiliary hardtop gives this Corvette serious race-inspired looks (a black soft top resides beneath the tonneau as well), long with B.F. Goodrich "Silvertown" blackwall tires.

Power comes from the competition-ready 327 cubic inch V8 (with correct "RF" suffix code and casting number 3782870) with correct Rochester fuel injection (casting number 7017360). Capable of a reliable 6,500rpm, he optional fuel injection combines with 11.25:1 compression, Duntov solid-lifter cam, nd a high-speed valve train for a factory rating of 360hp. Backed by its 4-speed manual transmission and 4.11 Positraction rear end, t all adds up to the most potent Corvette in the 1962 lineup.

The last year for Corvette's venerable straight axle and the first year for 327 cubic inches of V8 displacement, odel year 1962 represented a bit of an obvious transition. In addition, more monochromatic look was a new design feature as color contrasting coves were no longer available -- however, nterestingly, contrasting rocker panel trim strip was subtly introduced. The example offered here stays with the "less is more" theme with its black steel wheels and poverty hubcaps (RPO 276). 1962 was also the last year for a traditional trunk, ot to be re-introduced until 1998, nd interior heating became standard equipment.
