At Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale sale in 2010 a nice-looking 1972 Heavy Chevy with a 307 and a three-speed automatic said to have 7000 original miles and supporting paperwork sold for $27500. A recent online auction for a beautifully restored 1971 Heavy Chevy topped out at $16300 and the seller opted to keep the car. Popular price guides put Heavy Chevy values at $10000 on the low end $20000 on average and $35000 on the high end. If you're considering a project car a Heavy Chevy Chevelle would make an excellent candidate. The parts availability is among the best of any car of its vintage and the knowledge base is widespread.
