Vehicle History -

In 1969 the owner of McCurry Chevrolet (now Payton Chevrolet) a very small dealer in Herber Springs, AR had Cliff Peck, the owner of Peck Chevrolet (now Crain Chevrolet) a very large dealer in Little Rock, AR order this TRUE big block Pace Car. The Pace Car remained in the McCurry family almost exclusively until 1996 at which time a friend of the family and owner of Truman Baker Chevrolet (now Orr Chevrolet) in Searcy, AR completed a 2 year frame off rotisserie restoration. In 1998 the Pace Car was then sold were it remained in a private collection at Bob McDorman Chevrolet in Canal Winchester, OH. In November of 2010 Bob McDorman had Mecum Auction liquidate 150 vehicles from his private collection. During the auction, Dana Mecum purchased the Pace Car and intended to re-sell the vehicle during his next auction in Kansas City, MO. The car was tracked down by the current owner and purchased directly from Dana Mecum prior to crossing the auction block a second time. I have a fairly extensive DOC (Documented Ownership Chain) as I continue to stay in contact via emails w the daughter of the original owner & I kept copies of Bob McDorman’s title & Dana Mecum’s title. Both titles indicate mileage is authentic (less than 30k). Car underwent a 2 year frame off restoration 1996-1998 just prior to Bob’s ownership. Bob owned a Chevrolet dealership & 150 plus collector cars which none appeared to ever be driven very much. Dana had the vehicle for less than 30 days prior to my purchase. I had Jerry McNeish verify the car was authentic & it is. The engine & transmission were not born w the vehicle & I confirmed why with the original owner’s daughter. Her father had sold the vehicle in the early ‘70s (for a very short period of time) but almost immediately the family wanted the car back. Being a Chevrolet dealership, they were able to track down the car’s location & repurchased it & drove it back to its original home. It had sustained some front end damage while it was out of their brief possession so they searched out a restorer (difficult back in the early ‘70s). While repairing the front end damage, the restorer swapped out the drive train w/o their knowledge & scraped the OEM drive train – when they found out they were devastated. Regardless, the car did receive a period correct 396/325 horsepower engine & THM400 automatic transmission - it runs like a rabbit!

This 1969 Camaro Pace car was featured at the GM Nationals in Carlisle PA in 2011 along with its “sister”, a matching 2011 Indy 500 Convertible Pace Car which is 1 of 100 six speed manual produced. ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO I REMOVED THE CENTER CONSOLE FROM THE 1969 PACE CAR, SHIPPED IT TO NAZARETH PA, & REQUESTED THAT IT BE SIGNED BY MARIO ANDRETTI (THE WINNER OF THE INDY 500 IN 1969)- HE DID SIGN IT & IT HAS BEEN REINSTALLED IN THE CAR!!!! The signed console & a copy of my request to Mr. Andretti will be included with the vehicle.
