Here’s a Corvette NICKNAMED "Leonard" that’s both unique in its original stock configuration and as a Race Car! Believed to be 1 of only 15 ’66 Corvettes built with the M-22 "Rock Crusher" 4-speed transmission; the car is also believed to be one of five Heavy Duty cars equipped with the 4. 56 rear end! This car is verified via the Registory of Corvette Race Cars. The original 427/425hp was modified with what soon became a special engineering L88 prototype! The parts came from the legendary racer. and back door GM man. Gib Hufstader. The car then began its racing career in the A/P Class. The car came from the factory in Silver Pearl. but was repainted White livery with Purple accents in the Wilson Chevrolet family logo. The car was raced in all western US A/P events thru 1969 and was a solid competitor. It was then sold in California and wound up on the show car circuit in the late ’70’s. When purchased by Mike Sepe in ’85 he discovered the ORIGINAL transmission still in place and recognized it as one of the 15 M22’s!! Len Butler’s name and phone # were still stamped on the main case! And that’s how the car’s unique history was discovered! Mike Sepe then undertook an extensive N. C. R. S. caliber restoration of the car in the late ’80’s to its racing ’66-’69 livery. The car was then sold again in ’94 and went through three successive owners who had modified the car greatly. vintage raced it and ultimately crashed it. The car has just been completely and extensively frame off restored back to its former glory as a Vintage Race Car. It’s in concours show condition with zero track time . . . as of yet!
