This is my FIRST restoration project. I have been repairing cars for over 20 years. and I always wanted to get into this. I am amazed on how much a restoration shop charges for this process. as it does NOT cost as much as they claim. A neighbor has had his 68 Camaro in the shop getting restored. and he is well over $80. 00 into it (not including the cost of the actual car. I was afraid to ask what he paid for it). and 3 years. and it is still not complete. I have about 6 months into this. and a total of around 600 hours of time (most of it was researching and fitting certain parts. actual labor is probably around 400 hours)THIS IS A HOME BUILT CAR. not one that was dropped off in a shop to have it sit in a corner for years on end collecting rustEVERYTHING was removed from the vehicle and either powder coated or painted with automotive paint (paint will not peel or flake off like most of them)ALL damaged panels were replaced. not pulled or bondoed. with the best quality replacement partsJust had it appraised by a national certified appraiser. which he appraised it at $47. 00My appraiser noted that the ONLY reason it appraised so low is because the car is a Res/SalvThis is a numbers correct car. no modern transformations. I liked the year and style so I stuck with that.
