STK 2857 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS
Chevrolet debuted the SS option in their full-size Impala in 1961 and the concept took off in 1962. Exterior visual elements of the Super Sport model featured "convertible roof" styling, additional chrome trim and an engine-turned aluminum-and-chrome panel to house the triple-unit taillight assemblies. This special trim was also used to fill the side moldings, giving the SS model a distinctive appearance. Our 1962 Impala Super Sport is a great example of one of Chevrolet's best looking full-size models, striking from any angle. This Impala is a North Carolina native and the window sticker and owners manual are included. The current owner has cared for this Super Sport for 28 years, performing a total restoration in 1993. The exterior is straight and solid and the professional respray of Nassau Blue is in very good condition. All of the chrome and stainless is also in good condition. The restored S/S interior is an invitation to go back in time, right down to the bucket seats, passenger grab-bar, crank vent windows and working Delco transistor AM radio. All windows are tinted glass. Horsepower is furnished by a matching-numbers (stamped) 327ci small-block with 4-barrel intake/carb rated at 250hp. This was a new engine for the Chevrolet lineup in '62 and became the base engine for the Corvette. It is one of the best motors that GM has ever produced – powerful, yet very balanced. The owner states that the 327 was completely rebuilt in 1993 and it sounds strong through dual exhaust. The small-block is backed by a 2-speed PowerGlide and factory differential. Factory steel wheels with original S/S spinner wheel covers mount 14" Dunlop radials. The chassis is equipped with power steering and 4-wheel power drum brakes. Overall, this Impala Super Sport looks very much like it did sitting on the showroom floor in 1962 - it must be seen to be appreciated. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS".
