1969 Chevrolet CST10 Pickup
The 1967-72 Chevrolet pickup trucks stand at the intersection of modern passenger-car-like comfort and style with tough Chevrolet truck durability. Fully independent front suspension combined with available coil spring rear axle brought an unprecedented level of drivability to the American -ton light truck which was increasingly pressed into service not only for work but also recreational activities. At the top of the available trim levels for 1969 10-series Chevrolet light trucks was the CST trim, or Custom Sports Truck.
This Chevrolet CST/10 pickup has had 3 owners in its lifetime. The first, an oil man from Texas, then his daughter, then our current consigner. His task has kept this truck's exterior original, its original motor, and transmission. Other improvements throughout his ownership and now we have a CST10 that is a classic and looking very much like the original workhorse and recreational access vehicle it was intended to be.
Exterior
Luxurious Yellow Green on White -ton utility paint which is original is looking nicely preserved. With straight steel covered in this Yellow Green we can see a few slight areas of paint rub-off, some scratches, and marks throughout on the paint, but it retains its shine and overall is very good. The original brightwork features the custom wood-grain insert along the cab, fleetside, and tailgate which set the CST apart from its lower-trimmed 10-series Glamour Pickup cousins. Speaking of the bed, it is now lined with a rubber tough protective mat, and the top has a hard white tonneau covering to keep all dry that is inside this 8 foot bed. A white painted cabin top matches the tonneau, and newer chromed bumpers have been polished and put back on. Dual exhaust tips peek out from either side just behind the rear wheel wells, a trailer hitch is on back, and snazzy GM style rally wheels are wrapped with BFG T/A 275/60R15's in front, and 31x10x15LT's on back.
Interior
The Custom Sport Truck theme continues from the outside in. The well-appointed interior was refinished in comforting Yellow Green for the dash front and upper and lower door panels. Padded sun visors and dash top to the wide door-to-door comfort of the saddle colored broadcloth fabric insert and vinyl-upholstered bench seat, are seen inside. Some areas of rub through can be noted on this original bench. A Sheridan pattern frame surrounds tuck and roll door panels also in saddle, and is made up of embossed vinyl, no stitching. A heater and defroster are for in-cabin command of climate control. Putting sports into the pickup truck formula is a factory tachometer to keep track of the engine revs. A factory-issue AM/FM radio is ready for in-truck entertainment. Gold carpeting and a tight vinyl headliner framed in aluminum trim have also been refreshed and looking good.
Drivetrain
The original 307ci V-8 engine is backed by a heavy-duty Saginaw 3-speed automatic transmission. The truck features optional power steering and power brakes. A 2-barrel carburetor feeds this nicely maintained mill and power moves rearward to a 12-bolt 3.73 conventional rear axle. The engine is nicely painted in the GM orange/red and sits within an unrestored engine bay with a nice overall patina.
Undercarriage
Very slight light coating of surface rust can be seen on all the patina black panels and steel solid structure underneath. Floorpans and rockers remain solid. For the suspension we can note independent coil springs for the front, and 3 link with coil springs for the rear. Braking is drum brakes on all 4 corners. Cherrybomb exhaust add a nice melodious tone to this CST.
Drive-Ability
Speaking of melodious tone, she fires right up and my test drive proved this truck to be very nice with good acceleration, solid bias free braking, and solid suspension. Finish is very nice, and all is working inside the cabin.
A truly fine original example with some last consigner add ons that only improve the value of this classic 1969, and have it presenting well. Mechanically sound and ready to take on the working world, or just be a great classic to have at your cabin, or your driveway to turn some heads of passers by.
