1955 Chevrolet Corvette Tribute Convertible
A clone is usually a lesser factory car, that's built being identical to.... say an original 442, from a base Cutlass. A tribute car is usually a highly modified version of the original. Could have a different suspension, driveline, lowered, larger wheels, etc.
For consignment a tribute car paying homage to a 1955 Corvette convertible. Built by Classic Sports Cars Inc. from Holly Hill, Florida. This is an XC53 model meant to replicate a 1955 Vette but titled as a 1953 model. Save for the new center console, and tilt steering column, this car does a very nice job paying tribute to those early Corvettes but is in modern up to date form. Gypsy Red molded fiberglass matches the original bowtie molds, and holds a high degree of accuracy when it comes down to the brass tacks.
Exterior
Molded to exacting standards as per the measurements of the 1953 'Vette, this fab fiberglass creation is bathed in Gypsy Red paint. It's all there with the oval grille with its "toothy" smile, small bumper-ettes rounding the front quarters and 2 vertical chromed bumpers framing the center grille from below. Oval headlights are protected by a chromed wide gap screen and surrounded by a chrome bezel. On the sides, a jet age trim spear rockets from the front wheel wells to the back of the car, is in perfect alignment with the panels, and has a Chevrolet script badge in your grandmother's handwriting on the long front quarter. A round aerodynamic front melts into the hood which works its way back to a wrap around chrome trimmed glass for the windshield. Rear quarters are sporting fins which have exaggerated cones tipped with the taillights above a rounded rear roll-pan. The trunk lid curves nicely within the confines of the curves for the quarters, and more dual round the corner only bumpers are emulating the curve of the bottom of the quarters. A small curve smile bumper is on the bottom and is flanked on either side by chrome bezeled "holes" for the exhaust to peek through. Big shiny wheel covers with "knockoff" hubcups are surrounded by thin whites on thin rubber tires all around. The tan canvas convertible top is a bit tight, and has not been used very much, but remains tear free with clear plastic rear window.
Interior
A slightly more modern looking dash sports 2 eyebrow semicircular bump ups on either side, the driver's side houses the speedo, and passenger's a speaker cover fan styled grid encircled with chrome trim. Stitched padded darker tan leather covers the dash top, and below many gauges are embedded into the metal cream painted dash front. For the doors nice dark tan tuck and roll blends with clean smooth panels to create a rich look and provide a rest for the arm. Bomber style low back gracefully curved buckets with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters bordered by matching piping fit neatly into the curved fiberglass tonneau which covers the top. Gold carpet for the floors and it is clean, clean, clean. A tilt column has been added on and sitting in the center of the gold carpeted hump, is the shift lever. Nicely appointed modern touches work with the classic look to form a more modern interior.
Drivetrain
A flip for the forward hinged fiberglass hood, and we are met with a pristine engine bay, with a 350ci V8 Chevrolet engine topped with a 4-barrel Holley carburetor, and a 3-speed automatic transmission. It's beautifully done mixing red paint with supple hoses and wires and some chrome bolt ons.
Undercarriage
All fiberglass and structural tube steel chassis, which is free all rust make up the structure. Front power disc brakes, and rear power drums are making the braking. All looking good underneath.
Drive-Ability
A beautiful replica is always a head turner, and this one snapped a lot of necks while on our test drive. A quick starter, smooth as silk idle, and it took off like a rocket. This car handles beautifully, and with the more modern interior, was a pleasure to drive. All functions were working just peachy. Consigner states there are side panels that come with this car.
This car has the ability visually to take you back to generation 1 of the Harley Earl dream. Exacting fiberglass mold measurements, all the trimmings, and some serious power with the mill, and it is a turn key, no wrenching classic convertible replica car sure to please and satisfy.
