Car description

Pedigree. Originality and Condition. Documentation. Four very important reasons why this 1981 Z28 Camaro stands out among the rest. This car spent one-third of its life part of the prestigious John Craddock Collector Car Museum in Tampa, Florida. Google ‘John Craddock Collector Car Museum’ and the thumbnail for the video IS THIS Z28. The video is nearly 4 minutes long and this Z28 is walked-around for approximately 20 seconds. This is a Mecum car. It has spent its entire life in a museum or garages. It has a clean CarFax report. It has a rich pedigree.

This is a bone-dry and leak-free Z28. With the exception of the clock -- everything works perfectly; right down to the door buzzer. With the exception of a professional re-spray in its original color in 2005, the replacement of a factory-correct perforated vinyl headliner and sun visors in 2020, and the replacement of normal maintenance items (oil, filters, batteries, belts, hoses, and tires) it is exactly as it came from the factory almost 40 years ago – right down to the floor mats and gas cap. The 350 5.7L V8 is strong and sounds amazing. The automatic transmission shifts smooth. It handles very nicely. It is fully-loaded with 17 factory options (reference the window sticker and build sheet). Among the options are: power doors, power windows, power antenna, T-Tops, Air Conditioning, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, AM-FM stereo, electric rear window defroster, and custom cloth seats. You will be hard-pressed to find another late-model second-generation Z28 in this condition. The exterior finish is stunning and the interior of the car is exceptional. It has 48,950 original miles and has been driven less than 1,000 miles since it was sold at the Mecum auction in January, 2012.

The documentation for this Z28 is incredible. The original window sticker, build sheet, sales contract, safety report, maintenance manual, after-market rustproofing and paint protection contracts, sales brochure, and tire literature (and more) are included.

A California Car Cover Plushweave Cotton Flannel Indoor Custom Fitted Cover is also included in the sale.

Behind the numbers:There were 126,129 Camaros built in 1981. The color Red (RPO Code 75L)was the third-least popular color selection used in only 7,615 units. That’s about 6%. This car also has the RPO Code F41 – Special Suspension, which was only produced in 3,604 units. Presuming that 6% of all Camaros with the F41 RPO Code were Red, then this car may be 1-of-216. But ther's more to the story! This car also has the RPO Code 15D – Silver Custom Cloth (FQQ2), which was included in less than 2% of all units. It is entirely possible that this car may be 1-of-4 (216 * .02). This is clearly a very unique car. That is why it was part of the Craddock Collection.
