Car description

1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Convertible

This sporty Corvair is a top of the line Monza 900 Convertible in good shape. Whether you're looking to restore one to all original, or to tinker with one and make it into whatever you want, this is a good foundation to start from. The body is very solid except for a few spots of rust on the driver's side front fender. The top is in pretty good shape although the window needs more polishing to get it clear, but it does not need replacing.
There is no sign of significant crash damage, but there is a bump in the driver’s side headlight molding and wrinkle in the drivers rear quarter panel. The finish, while scratched here and there, will brighten up with buffing. Was a Flintstone car at one point, but that has been patched by previous owner. The trim is all in place.
There are some condition issues with this car, but it starts, runs, accelerates, shifts in all 4 gears and reverse, turns and stops. Does great running around town, but I wouldn't suggest heading out on a road trip without going through it first. Here is a link to a video of the engine starting, running and stopping:

Video will open in a new window.

[isdntekvideo]Many new items on it since I got it last year: Carpeting, ignition parts, carburetors, etc. Wheels and spare are in good shape with lots of miles left on them.
It didn't sell in the last auction, but I did get a lot of questions:
  • Does it leak oil? Yes. It is a Corvair. Has a small oil leak at the rear driver's side of the engine.
  • How is the engine on a 1 to 10 scale? I give it a 5 or 6. I would not let Mom take it on a long solo trip until it has been gone through.
  • Are there any records? None, but I do have all of the recent Clarks receipts.
  • How's the paint? Paint is mildly oxidized and has some scratches. Should clean up nice.
  • Seats? Front seats need reupholstery.
  • Doors OK? They open and close fine and do not sag.
  • How are the floorboards? Fronts are repaired with riveted sheet metal. Backs are solid.
  • How is the chrome? Most is scratch free, but the back bumper has a few scratches. Both bumpers are straight.
  • Weather stripping? Original, engine hood rubber needs replacing.
  • Does it have air conditioning? No.

This car was built at Willow Run in April 1964, and is Ember Red, with a medium red interior, bucket seats (that need re-covering) and a white top. Has the tinted windshield, 2-speed wipers, (wiper motor needs checking), day/night mirror, interior lighting, backup lights and a rear antenna. Very close to original. Comes with a number of manuals and some new spare parts.
Would love for it to go to a Corvair enthusiast!
