Chevrolet's Camaro was immediately embraced by performance enthusiasts, thanks to an extensive list of options, when it was introduced in the autumn of 1966. Soon, a few now legendary Chevy dealerships realized that there was a market for Camaros with high performance engines not offered by the factory, most notably Yenko and Baldwin. But Nickey Chevrolet of Chicago was the first, offering the original 427 Camaro by November of 1966. Among the support staff at Nickey was Bill Thomas, the racer and constructor of the phenomenal Cheetah, so these were not cobbled together hot rods, just seriously quick performance cars.
