We have something fun and really special offered up for sale here at Motoexotica Classic Cars! We must say special because out of all the amazing classics we have sold in the years past, we have to admit some of the best cars come right out of our own backyard with private original owners! We are proud to offer this local two owner 1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Classic Landau Hardtop Coupe with only 47,174 original miles! We must imagine that this survivor car is exactly somebody’s perfect high school memory! We can actually hear the sounds of the 70’s playing while viewing this car, maybe some Nazareth, Black Sabath or even our local boys Head East jamming loud while pulling up to school with your US mags, flipped air cleaner mod and “HiJacker†stance! The original owner ordered this Malibu from Reynolds-Westhoff Chevrolet just south of here in DeSoto, Missouri Missouri and the family kept the Chevy until 2011 and then sold the car to a local pilot.Easily the most thorough redesign during its 10-year run, the 1973 Chevelle brought Colonnade styling to the masses. Fastback coupe and sedan rooflines, frameless door glass and slim roof pillars highlighted the Colonnade styling along with the four-door station wagons (Estates) with liftgates, rear air deflectors and taillights in the rear bumpers. This example was made during the first week of April 1974 in GM’s Baltimore, Maryland assembly plant (VIN code B) and it has the upscale Malibu Classic trim package. This example was shipped to Reynolds-Westhoff Chevrolet in DeSoto, Missouri. Its vehicle pre-delivery inspection was performed on April 20, 1974 then delivered to its original owner, Walter J., on May 30, 1974. On August 11, 1990, when it had its tires replaced, the reported mileage was only 32,320! Its original correct Cream-Beige exterior (code 50) with brown pinstriping and trim that are in overall very good order. The bodywork is straight and solid, its engine bay is original and very tidy, the battery appears in very good order, its cargo trunk area is in excellent original shape with its black matting and includes a full-size spare tires and wheel along with a the original jack. Its chrome wraparound bumpers are in very good order; this was also the first year for front and rear five-mph bumpers on all vehicles sold in North America. This Chevelle rolls on Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts, size 235/70R15 in front and 275/60R15 in back and each tire is mounted on US five-slot mag wheels. The wheels are in excellent order while the tires are in great condition.Under that counterbalanced hood is the original 350 CID V-8 engine backed by a Turbo Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.08:1 rear end. Driver convenience features on this model include air-conditioning, power steering, power brakes with discs in front and a driver’s side remote sideview mirror control. The air-conditioning is complete but needs a new clutch and belt. Inside, the Light Neutral (code 722) mixed-pattern cloth and vinyl interior is in overall excellent original order. The front and rear benches feature cloth seating surfaces with vinyl trim. The front bench offers a fold-down center armrest and the seatbacks fold forward individually to permit access to the rear. The contrasting brown carpet is in great, original order while the Light Neutral headliner looks great. A two-spoke steering wheel faces the driver while the cloth and plastic inner door panels and dashboard look great. A column-mounted shift lever and a factory AM/FM radio complete the interior. For 1974, Chevelles featured new Mercedes-inspired chrome grilles made of die-cast steel and single rectangular taillights, ditching the dual round units on 1973 coupes and sedans. More massive rear bumpers were also added, in accordance with stricter US Federal standards. The upscale luxury trim level for 1974 was the new Malibu Classic, offered in sedan, coupe and station wagon models. Unlike the 1973 Laguna, the Malibu Classic used the same front end and chrome bumper as the lesser models and had the smaller vertical opera windows and a spring-loaded hood ornament. Early-production 1974 Classic coupes required the vinyl roof option; apparently inserts were used to cover part of the big rear quarter window. Later-built cars were available with a standard painted roof that included the smaller opera window. Inside, the Malibu Classic interiors had notchback bench seats upholstered in cloth or vinyl, mixed pattern carpeted door panels and simulated woodgrain instrument panel trim. There was a lot of overlap in the midsize segment during the mid-1970s as two-doors were all the rage, sales-wise. Coupe competition to this Chevelle in 1974 included AMC’s Javelin, Buick’s Century and Regal Coupes, Datsun’s 260Z, Dodge’s Challenger and Charger, Ford’s Gran Torino Brougham and Gran Torino Elite, Mercury’s Cougar and Montego, Oldsmobile’s Cutlass Supreme and Cutlass Salon, Plymouth’s Satellite and Pontiac’s Le Mans and Grand Prix.Documentation includes original Chevrolet owner’s manual, original Chevrolet vehicle warranty card, original Chevrolet emissions control guide, original Chevrolet maintenance schedule and maintenance and repair receipts from the original owner.
