Car description

Rare Original 9C1 Police Malibu
This is an original unmolested1981 Chevrolet Police Package Malibu, used by the Marion County Sheriffs Office in Oregon.
This car was purchased at auction out of Marion County Oregon in 1987 by a friend of mine. This person spent his life buying surplus law enforcement vehicles from 1971 to 2015. Certain cars he purchased over the years he would set aside as keeper cars, this Malibu was one of them. This person has since passed away but before he did, I acquired several of his cars. I recently have sold off some of the cars I acquired from my friend and do have some more I may be listing soon. The cars are from the 80's and are in original as was last used in condition. Others I have sold off recently are in private collections.
This is a rare opportunity to have an original police package car like this that's has spent most of its life in storage unmolested. This Malibu has all the special 9C1 components including the heavy duty steering and suspension upgrades, etc.
This Malibu is still wearing its original paint, along with the repainted front doors in a color the Marion County Sheriffs Office was using at the time. The unit number for the car can still be seen on the roof and on the bumpers.
The interior is completely original and still in good condition. Plastic parts inside of the car are faded but are still in very good condition and can be re dyed back to their original dark blue color. The rubber floor covering is in excellent still soft and pliable condition showing little to no wear. The drivers seat has a small tear in it along with the upper rear seat cushion. The headliner is faded and starting to come apart, it will need to be redone. The dash has some cracks in it from age. This Malibu has its rare original police spec factory bucket seats, when sitting in them, they still feel as they did when new.
The body is in very good condition with no rust issues other then the trunk lid and trunk floor. The trunk lid suffered from condensation issues which caused the trunk floor to develop pinhole rust in places. The trunk floor however will not require much work to repair or even replacing. The trunk lid will need to be replaced though. I do know of a rust free trunk lid that could be purchased separately if the buyer of this Malibu wants it. The doors, quarter panels, fenders, roof, floor pan, etc., are rot free, only surface rust from rock chips, etc.
The engine is the original 350 cu.in. 4 barrel police spec engine for this model. After last being started in 1991, the engine has not been run until now. With fresh gas and a good battery, it started up without any issues and ran just fine. The brakes are good along with the rest of the mechanical areas of the car. There is also a skid plate attached under the car with support brackets. One picture attached to this listing shows this skid plate. The mileage is original at 135K.
The tires on the front two wheels are Goodyear GT's that the car last ran with while still in service back in 1987. The rear tires are generic newer replacements that were put on due to the old Goodyear's not holding air. All four wheels are the originals to this car. There is a spare wheel with no tire, also the original jack is still in the trunk.
This Malibu originally had a pushbar on the front and one left hand spotlight, both are long gone as they were removed from the car when it was taken out of service. There is evidence the car ran with a light bar while in service.
The Oregon State Police used these Police Malibu's and this particular car was probably purchased new on the state bid contract as its identical to the ones the State Police here used. Also Marion County is in Salem Oregon where the Oregon State Police headquarters and fleet services are located.
It has been at least 15 years since I have seen or heard about another one of these Police Malibu's in Oregon. I know they were used in other states, county and municipalities, but finding one of these cars today is a rare thing.

I have set a reserve for this car, it is a reasonable reserve amount but less then what the car is worth. I know the rarity and what the potential value is for this car. The reserve is set at a low amount intended to sell this car, but its set not to give the car away.

Checking closely the underside of the car, I did notice a small rust area on the rear seat floor pan where your feet would be. This is a small area and an easy repair. I just want everyone interested to know. Also the title for this car is the original title still in the name of Marion County Oregon.
