Vintage trucks are extremely popular right now, and if this 1966 Chevrolet C10 is any indication, there's a bright future in old haulers. From the vivid orange paint to the smooth-running 350 V8 small block under the hood, this cool pickup offers a great glimpse into what trucks were really like in the mid-1960s, and how awesome they can be with a few choice upgrades. 1966 was the last year for the Fleetside pickups introduced in 1960, which offered lower rooflines and a swept-back cab that offered industry-leading space and comfort, and we wouldn't see such ornate trucks ever again.
Finished in attention-grabbing Burnt Orange paint, this truck is a good-looking hauler that doesn't look like it's trying too hard. The Fleetside offered dramatic styling with lots of swoops and curves, as well as brilliant use of trim (the profile brightwork in particular is vintage GM design at its finest), and all of it remains 100% intact on this hauler. Other styling details include the wing-like lip at the back of the cab, which probably has no real function but looks really cool. Paint and bodywork are done to a driver-quality standard, and this truck will be right at home both at local shows and the local lumber yard on a Saturday afternoon. These 1st generation C-10s were always well-made rugged machines from new, so it shouldn't be surprising to find one this nice today, and very little bodywork seems to have been required to get it ready for the repaint it enjoyed a few years ago. All the original trim remains, from the massive front bumper and delicate egg crate grille, to the cool cast trim piece behind the cab, to the polished stainless along the sides that is strongly reminiscent of the Impala SS trim from just a few years earlier. But if you need it to work, this long wheelbase Chevy is ready, with a wood-floor bed that looks good despite showing some age that means it's OK to throw your stuff in there without a second thought.
Trucks were austere machines when they were new, and this one seems pretty much the way they were back then with a few notable upgrades. The bench seat wears replacement light gray upholstery that closely replicates the original cloth, although we'd argue it's a bit more plush and comfortable and features an aftermarket middle console in the middle, and it nicely matches the gray portion of the two-tone door panels. That two-tone color combination continues in the original steel dash, the headliner is nicely painted, and thick rubber mats on the floor provides great insulation and cleans up very easily. Padded dashes and door panels hadn't yet made it to the truck lines, so they've been finished in matching gray-and-orange paint to give everything a uniform look, and an upgraded JVC AM/FM/CD/AUX head unit in the dash provides all the entertainment. The original gauges are a very cool setup with a single lens over all dials, and the big, original steering wheel anchors the cabin and completes the awesome old-school feel.
When the truck was restored a few years ago, a 350 cubic inch V8 was nestled between the front fenders to make it runs as good as it looks. Purported to actually be a stroker motor (383 V8, although we do not have the paperwork to validate the claim), an Edelbrock intake manifold, and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor help make power, so it runs beautifully, and many of the accessories were upgraded, including the alternator, power steering, power front disc brakes, and a big radiator up front. A dual-snorkeled air cleaner attracts all the attention inside the engine bay and makes the engine bay look great, and the Chevy Orange paint on the block is a nice contrast against the black inner fenders and firewall. It starts easily with a great V8 rumble thanks to long-tube headers and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system, and with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, it's easy to drive. The chassis is clean but largely original, so it's not shiny and perfect. On the other hand, it shows off what clean living down south will get you and again, if you want to use your vintage pickup to get some chores done, this one will never complain. Cool smoothie chrome wheels give it an old-school muscular look, especially with those fat BFGoodrich 255/70/15 blackwall radials.
This is a good, clean long-bed truck that can work all day and still clean up nicely for a night out on the town. Call today!
