Car description

1984 K30 SCOTTSDALE 1-TON 4x4 CREW CAB LONG BED

Solid '84 crew cab Chevy. This truck was bought new locally and I know every previous owner. It's a solid pickup to either restore or use as-is. The mileage on the odometer 31,695. I'm pretty sure it has rolled over at least once. I don't know any more than that regarding the mileage history. The last registered owner had it since 1996, and I never saw him drive it. The truck runs good. It doesn't need any major mechanical work. The body is really solid and is nearly rust free. It has a couple small spots which I'll detail below. I was just going to do a little work to this truck, lift it, and drive it. I have two crewcabs already and I've just decided that I have other priorities and unfinished projects. I have many more pics I can send. I'll consider offers to sell it early. Thanks and happy bidding.

MECHANICAL

This pickup originally had a 6.2 diesel. That engine is long gone, replaced with a small block chevy V8. I believe it's a 350 but I haven't decoded the engine. The truck runs nice. It's a 4-barrel, pretty much completely stock with a quadrajet. The engine has no blowby. It smokes for a couple seconds when cold, then goes away. This is not a cloud of smoke, but visible at first. I started it today, when it was warmer out, and it did not smoke at all. The truck had sat for a couple years when I bought it so it may just have needed to be run some. There are no ticks or knocks. No major leaks. It would probably be good to give it a tuneup and change/check all fluids. Not because I see anything that needs work, but I just don't know the last time it had those things done. The transmission and clutch work nice. No abnormalities. The 4x4 works fine and I tried it in high and low, with the hubs in. The lights all work. Heater, selector, and wipers work. Exhaust is dual and quiet. I put the wheels/tires on it and they drove perfect when I had them on a different rig I had. They are e-rated 235/75r16. I know most people will probably upgrade the tires, but they are usable. The brakes work but should be checked out. This still has the diesel brake system which is differentthan a gas rig. The power assist for the brakes is hydraulic, not vacuum. Diesel engines don't have vacuum. It's easy to convert it to vacuum assist if you want. The truck will need shocks. Overall the truck is mechanically sound. It will need no major mechanical work to be driven as-is.

BODY
The body on the truck is all stock and original from what I can tell. The tailgate may not be original because it looks black on the outside but dark blue on the inside. It may be original but not sure. There is no sign of any paint or collision work done anywhere. No overspray in any jams or anything. All paint matches. The truck has a couple small spots of rust: The bottom door skin on the drivers side rear door. The outer rocker under that door also has minor rust-through. There is only one other spot of rust and that is a small spot behind the passenger rear tire. These spots can all be repaired with raw sheetmetal patches but replacement patch panels are readily available and cheap. That's the only rust on the truck. I've been all over it underneath too and I have pics of that also. No floor pan rust or cab mount rust. The frame is fine too. Montana doesn't salt like some other states. All doors and windows operate as they should. Hood and tailgate also. Paint has lots of scratches and such. I'd drive it but the paint is not nice. The passenger front fender was bumped in the front. You can see it in the pics. Front bumper is new. Overall, the body is in pretty nice shape for a 36 year old truck that wasn't a garage queen.

INTERIOR
Theinterior is the basic scottsdale with no power windows or locks. The usual stuff is worn. Front seat needs recovered and a little foam work on the drivers front base. Dash is cracked. Floormat needs replaced but it's usable. Just coming apart on the drivers side. Headliner has been removed. The foam stuff is still there though. Rear seat in pretty good shape. Factory radio with cassette tape player! I don't know if the tape deck works but the radio comes on. I don't believe the steering wheel is factory. I'm pretty sure it's from a newer model. The steering column appears original though. The interior has been used but hasn't been hacked up which is nice. You can buy just about everything new to restore these trucks.

Overall, this is a great truck to tinker with and use as-is, or restore. The crew cab SRW 4x4 trucks are hard to find and I'm sure it will be a good investment to restore. This classic is used and sold as-is.
