Description
1968 Chevrolet 3/4 ton with heavy duty suspension including 1 ton springs. This is direct from the movie lot. This was used as a support vehicle for dozens of movies featuring classic, iconic Checker taxi cabs. This truck was built to haul. 396 big block recently rebuilt with roughly 35,000 miles on it. A beefed up Turbo 400 transmission with auxiliary cooler, again rebuilt about 2 years ago. There is an extensive file that is included with this truck of all maintenance and parts replaced that extends back nearly 20 years. This had to be a reliable vehicle as it not only delivered the goods, but it stayed on set to keep the fleet of cars running during filming. This can actually be seen in the movie "Catch Me If You Can" during the shot in front of the theater when all of the cars were rolling by. Some of the cars didn't have engines and one can be seen with no bumpers. This truck can pull Grapevine hill with a solid iron trailer, a 6.000 pound car and a full load of fuel, tools and a bunch of spare tires and parts keeping up with traffic and never running hot. This is the beast you have been looking for. It will probably pull a house while carrying all the furniture. The ultimate shop truck. The body has most of its original sheet metal and virtually no rust. The rockers have been replaced as it seems they were born rotten. There is a story behind every dent on the behemoth. I don't see anything that is not beat or bent. This truck should be the star of its own movie. No matter what you throw at it it just tosses it aside and keeps on going. The heat is hot and the A/C is freezing. It can idle for hours without boiling over. The tires are a mile deep in tread and it just hauled a 6 door Checker limousine from L.A. to Phoenix without so much as a burp. Power steering and power brakes make it easy to handle and it kind of drives the same with or without a load. It has the big ass tool box in the bed with good locks. There is a hefty plywood sheet on the floor to keep things from sliding around and it was common to just fasten things to the wood if they needed a makeshift scaffolding during a shoot. What were they going to do, scratch it? New windshield, a sliding rear glass, and surprisingly weather tight cab. The seat has been upholstered for God knows how many times. It is super durable velour and I have to say as supple as a favorite old chair. The big armrest/ file cabinet/ desk is included. It holds 2 coffee cups and about a years worth of invoices. The oil pressure is high, the coolant temperature is low and the speedometer works. It is showing 39,000 miles. I don't know how many times around that has been, But I'm fairly certain it is not the actual mileage. This has a clear California title and it breezes through emissions testing like a Prius. I would get in this truck tomorrow and drive to Buenos Aires. If you are looking for that certain truck that is mostly invincible, you can't find any better than this. It runs down the road like a scalded Coyote and you needn't worry about any parking lot dings. It has tons of character and nobody is going to think your prices are too high when you show up in this. This is a working dog looking to be re-homed. The truck is located in Phoenix. I want half of the final bid in five days and the full balance in ten. All funds must clear my bank before truck leaves my possession. No Nigerian Prince's laundering state funds, No drafts from Lithuanian Credit Unions. Ask your wife, Brother, Astrologer and Priest before you bid. I can store this for 30 days. I can help find shipping people. I cam pick you up at the airport. This is your opportunity to get the most patina'd truck in the country and you can be secure in the knowledge that this was done by Pro's.
