Originally out of New Jersey, this ElCamino was left sitting in a field rotting away until it was purchased at an estate sale. It was restored to become a wonderful weekend car for any car enthusiast.
This 1972 Chevrolet ElCamino is powered by a 402Ci V8. The engine code stamping correctly identifies this engine as being an LS3 produced at GM's Tonawanda, New York, engine plant in 1972, though it has not been confirmed as the original engine. When restored, the heads and camshaft were reworked to allow the engine to run smoothly with current gasoline standards. The exhaust is routed out the side through Summit Racing headers and side-exit exhaust pipes. While many might fear about burning their legs, the exhaust pipes only get warm, not hot, at idle. Both a Summit Racing HEI ignition and Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor were installed to further aid in performance and drivability. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a strong Turbo-Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission.
While for many years it looked as if this 1972 ElCamino was destined to become scrap metal, it has since been restored to an extremely high standard. All four fenders were replaced with parts sourced from the southwest. Before the body was prepared for paint, the entire body and bed were treated with a marine-grade rust inhibitor. The paint is a striking color of red and features hand-painted pinstripes. The paint on this 1972 Chevrolet ElCamino SS is in great condition and shows well.
A special feature on this ElCamino is that it features the factory air conditioning the car was originally equipped with. It has since received some updating and repairs to make sure it can handle even triple-digit heat. The seats were removed from the car and all broken springs and padding were replaced. They were then recovered with black vinyl. An aftermarket radio was fitted, but many would rather listen to the beautiful exhaust tone.
Overall this 1972 ElCamino was restored both mechanically and cosmetically to an extremely high standard.
Based on the Chevelle platform, the El Camino re-started production in 1964 known as a "coupe utility". The idea was to have a car with a handy flatbed that you could also drive to church without having to take a beat-up farm truck. In the eyes of collectors, these cars are sought after for their unique styling and muscle car qualities. While saying "car" is up to the person nobody can doubt the muscle of the 68-72 El Camino's. Please call or email with any questions or for additional information.
