We purchased this 1968 Camaro right here in town, where it spent the last 8 years or so as a Sunday show car and fair-weather toy for the prior owner. The car is in very good condition all around, and is fantastic running and driving car as well, with many trips all over South Florida under its belt. We have driven the car about 250 miles since we purchased it, and has performed perfectly, with no issues or problems. Our travels in it included a 1.5 hour freeway trip for a car show, and multiple local cruise nights in stop and go traffic. It drove great, ran cool, and displayed no sign of any issues during that time. The car was born the first week of January, 1968 at the GM Norwood plant. It left the factory finished in LeMan’s Blue with a white vinyl top and Parchment buckets. How long it stayed that way is anyone’s guess, so we won’t speculate. What we DO know is that sometime in 2008-2009, the car received a refresh which entailed paint and a new interior among other things. It was then sold to the prior owner, who kept it for approximately 8 years. Looking around the car, the body is in very good condition all around. Taking a felt covered 3x3 magnet to the car shows that it sticks everywhere, with no sign of any bondo, chicken wire, or beer can panels to be found. Gauge thickness on the metal feels original, with none of the thin panel feel you get from some of the cheap replacements being sold today. Gaps are all good, doors fit good, and you can shut both doors without slamming them. Trunk and hood alignment is about on par with factory fit back then, and looks good. Paint is shiny, slick and clean, and shows very well day or night. It is a bright burgundy metallic, and close to a Corvette Brandywine in color. It has some minor flaws and blemishes on it from normal use and time, but nothing that detracts from the overall presentation of the car as you can see in the extra large photos below. Stone chips, a small scuff, and other little marks are what you will find, and they are pretty minor little marks less than ¼†in size. Rockers are clean, and weld points are all good. There is no sign of the quarters being cut or replaced, and no sign of the roof or rear pillars having any damage or issues. The chalky water lines you see in the photos on the rockers will wipe away. I did not notice it was there until I came back from doing the photos. It is just soap residue from being washed. Dog legs are all clean and solid, with no sign of any patching or replacement. Rails are clean and solid. All of the chrome trim and bright work on the car is in very good to excellent condition. Bumpers show light marks here and there but present clean and nice. Camaro, 327, and Rally Sport emblems all show well, as does the RS fuel cap and RS front emblem. Without a build sheet, I can’t verify that the car was born an RS or not, but it has all the trim it would’ve had. Marker lights, signals, tail lights, and back up lights all work as they should, as do the headlamps which open and close easily and together. Tail light surround and grill surround show light wear and patina from time, but are both clean, effective, and solid pieces that no one will complain about at a car show or cruise night. Front chin spoiler is solid and clean, and has light marks underneath from parking curbs. Ridler satin and aluminum rims looks great on the car, and they are wrapped in like new modern radials. The whole wheel and tire set up is less than 700 miles old and still shows like new. Glass is in very good condition all around with no cracks or chips, and no laminate issues. All windows roll up and down with ease, and the fuzzies are in great shape as well. Seals and weather stripping all around the car show soft and new. There are no dry rotted segments, and no issues with the seals. The overall quality of the finish and appearance of the outside of the car is very nice. It could be shown at regional events with pride, and would rate between a #2 EXCELLENT and #3 GOOD in a value summary. Inside, the interior has been extensively redone, and shows exceptionally well. Carpeting still shows clean and new, with no rips, pulls, or staining. Houndstooth and black seating shows incredibly well, and the seats look like new front and back. There are no rips, tears, seam pulls or damage on the seats at all, and they are clean and fresh. Seat belts are clean and neat and in proper working order throughout the car. Seat backs are clean, solid, and present wonderfully. Center console shows wonderfully, and has no damage or issues. Shifter is clean and presents wonderfully, as does the surround. Switchgear and controls look great and operate as they should. Factory air system works as it should, and blows cold air, as well as functioning on all the other settings. An aftermarket AM/FM cassette was installed in the car decades ago, and left intact because it still works, and no one wants to listen to the radio in the car anyway! Center stack surround looks amazing, and the glovebox is fully lined and functional with locking handle and a passenger grab bar above it. A/C vents are all clean and functional, and door panels, window rollers and door handles all look like new. Headliner is tight, solid, and clean, and the rear package tray shows like new. Dash is clean and presents wonderfully with no damage. Speedo works as it should, as does the odometer, fuel gauge, and warning lights. All dash lights, indicator lights, and dimmer work as they should. Steering wheel is probably original to the car, and shows its age compared to the rest of the car. Cover shows mild patina, and the wheel trim shows aging as well. Horn works as it should. E-Brake works as it should, as does the release, and the dimmer switch functions as it should too. Engine bay is clean and neat, with a mix of modern, original, and OEM parts that have worked together to make it run and drive smoothly for the last 8 years. Passenger side pad numbers are not legible enough to verify the car as numbers matching. Block casting number partial that is visible under the paint the engine has what appears to be 391 at start, but I cannot see more without removing paint and damaging appearance. 3914660 was one of the numbers for 327/275 that year, so it may correct block, but I cannot verify it. It has a 2 barrel carb installed on it with the adapter for the 4 barrel air cleaner, and it runs and performs wonderfully. The intake has obviously been changed for the 2-bbl as well. Since so much of the car is different from original, we didn’t feel the need to grind and work to remove paint and build-up to decode a block when it won’t really affect the value either way. The beauty in this car is its overall condition, presentation, reliability, and drivability. A matching block won’t add or detract much of anything on it. Engine bay itself shows nicely, and it is more than clean enough to open the hood at car shows and events so that everyone can see it. Motor itself runs great, and it starts, idles and performs wonderfully. There are no stutters or stumbles across the power band, and it doesn’t smoke or anything either. It does leave some drips on the floor when you get back from a trip, and from I can see it is coming from the 3rd oil pan bolt back from the front on the passenger side. It’ll spit a few drops the size of a nickel when you park it, but nothing more. Transmission is clean and smooth shifting, and does not appear to have a shift kit in it. On the highway, it gets to a happy cruising space at about 65 mph, and would require a gear swap to get you rolling for any distances at 80-85 happily. I do NOT know the current gearing in the 12-bolt rear. The brakes work great, and scrub off speed with ease. Power assistance in the brakes and steering make the car easy enough for anyone in the family to drive, and the steering is solid and tight, without any excessive slop in the wheel. The chassis is unrestored and has not been detailed or anyting. It shows the typical oxidation and patina time will provide to a car chassis over a few decades, but is still solid. Suspension system is very good, and functions as it should. There are no odd creaks or groans in the chassis when driving. Floor pans are all solid, clean, and free of any patches or issues. There are no signs of any structural damage or issues either. As I said earlier, we have driven the car a lot since we bought it, and it is an excellent mannered car on the road. It doesn’t do anything funny, and rides and handles very well. With the windows up and the A/C on, you’ll feel like you’re in your neighbors Camry. Overall, this car is a solid #3 condition, with leanings toward #2. It never fails to attract admirers wherever you take it, and is a perfect car for someone that doesn’t have $70k to plunk down on a over-restored correct and verified machine that they won’t ever drive out of fear of damaging it. That’s about all I can tell you, but I encourage questions and addition photo requests if it helps you make a decision.
