Car description

1966 Chevrolet Impala Convertible

Residing on the African Savannah and confronted with a threat, the sleek, nimble, and fast Impala will take flight to outrun or confuse its competitor. Aptly named, the Chevrolet version introduced in 1958, continued to emulate its animal namesake through years of design modifications, and power options made available. In 1966, the jet age was in full swing, and automobile designers were transitioning from nonfunctional visual embellishments, to sleek, cleaner line designs for their cars. Engineers also caught on that more power will attract more buyers, and the "race" was on!

For consignment a Purple People eater, well actually a '66 Impala covered in purple, and topped with a white convertible top. A more recent GM crate 350ci V8 put in, and we give you a nice driver quality car in need of some exterior invasive rust remediation, otherwise everything is just peachy...I mean grapey!

Exterior
Sporting a clean white top and boot which was replaced a few years ago, it now has rear glass which is in good condition. Exterior is sprayed now Purple and has areas of scratches (possibly keyed) dimpling, bubbles, and cracking areas due to rust. Chrome is fair to good with dimpling and some dulling, but mostly good. A looooong hood and trunk lid for this car, and the iconic triple taillights held throughout the Impala lifetime, wrap the rear quarter to the rear trunk lid. 15-inch rally wheels are wrapped by BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires all around.

Interior
Plenty of smooth fairly clean gray vinyl covers the side panels and door panels. This gray frames tinted purpleish gray cloth buckets upfront and a rear bench. These seats are surrounded by purple vinyl piping. The center console splits the buckets and races toward the dash, housing the shifter. The shifter area is missing the trim panel. All original gauges are present, and overall dash is clean. Charcoal gray carpet for the floors, and in good condition is seen.

Drivetrain
The 350ci GM crate engine site within an unrestored engine bay with patina. An Edelbrock single 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold tops the 350. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission is on back.

Undercarriage
Some surface rust is seen on the frame but is not hurting structural integrity. Slight invasive rust is on the front section of the rockers, passenger side. Floorpans are rust free, and a new trunk pan has been installed. Straps for the gas tank have surface rust, as well as the passenger side of the exhaust will need to be replaced due to holes in it.

Drive-Ability
This started right up and ran beautifully. It is a good cruiser and takes turns with ease. Interior is comfortable,

An interesting color combination on a car that can be driven and enjoyed immediately, and while doing so maybe work on the rust areas, or maybe not. A newer crate engine which runs smoothly, and a convertible to let the sun shine in. This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius..
