Car description

1937 Chevrolet Business Coupe 1937 Chevrolet Business Coupe, This is a rare opportunity to possess an 82 year old automobile that has had only three owners. I purchased it in 1972, and it’s time to pass custody and the responsibility for protecting it to the next owner. Over the course of the years I’ve owned my 1937 Chevrolet Master Businessman’s Coupe, I partially restored it, then began the process of converting it to a safe, reliable street rod. The process began with a frame-off disassembly, with the frame stripped, sand blasted, and inspected. It was reassembled using a Mustang II front suspension mounted using a Chassis Engineering kit and all new parts except suspension arms and spindles, including a sway bar. At the rear, a Chassis engineering kit mounted a nearly new circa 1972 Nova rear axle on ’72 Dodge 4x4 front springs (less 2), new shocks and a sway bar. The running gear comprises an updated Buick 3.8l V6, mated to a rebuilt Muncie M20 four speed transmission using a GM bell housing. An eighties-vintage Camaro gave up its drive shaft, which was shortened and balanced. Chrome and polished aluminum accessories grace the engine compartment, to include valve covers, A/C and alternator brackets, A/C compressor and condenser, alternator, and air cleaner. A thermostat controlled electric fan is behind a custom, body-color shroud. A list of engine internal modifications is available upon request. The all-GM steel body has a few subtle external modifications: bumpers tucked to the body with custom gravel shields front and rear, lengthened hood sides, rebuilt running boards, re-radiused real wheel openings, modified reproduction backup light mounted on the rear gravel shield, and a right-side taillight assembly. Inside, the dash has multiple modifications: molded-in defroster vents, custom chrome ‘eyebrows’ over the instrument opening and glove box, and chrome plated ash tray and surround. The center of the dash has custom ‘waterfall’ trim mimicking the original pieces. An electric clock is fitted to the original radio control opening. The instrument panel opening was enlarged horizontally to accommodate a set of Stewart-Warner Wings gauges, mounted on a custom engine-turned aluminum instrument panel by FPM Metals. The lower section of the dash was cut off, a section about 1 ½” wide inserted, and the original lower piece re-welded in place. This space accommodates the various switches and controls as well as the A/C vents while maintaining a stock appearance. A modified Camaro parking brake is mounted to the left kick panel, connected to the rear wheels via a set of Lokar cables. Color coordinated three-point seat belts by Juliano’s are fitted. A mid-sixties Impala no-key tilt steering column is attached to the lower dash. The cup for the tachometer is attached to the tilting portion of the steering column. A custom three-spoke Le Cara banjo style steering wheel is wrapped in leather matching the color of the upholstery. It is fitted with a polished aluminum horn button with a Chevrolet bowtie. The custom shifter, attached to a Hurst shifter, is topped by a vintage Hurst knob naturally faded to a shade of yellow that compliments the car’s paint. The floor is covered with German square-weave carpet with custom edging. The upholstery is a Mustang cooper color, with sewn-in design matching the water-fall features of the dash. The door panels feature custom arm rests and polished aluminum accents. The kick panels house speakers and custom courtesy lamps. The package shelf also features speakers, and accented by custom aluminum trim. The front wheels are Wheels Vintique in 14x6, mounting P185/70R14 Cooper Trendsetter tires. The rear wheels are original Corvette Rally wheels in 15x8 with P235/70R15 Cooper Cobra tires. The hubcaps are reproduction 1951 Chevrolet, the chrome trim rings are aftermarket. The grill is a quality stainless steel reproduction, surrounded by original polished stainless trim, including the grill top. The hood center trim, which doubles as the hood hinge, is new old stock. The hood ornament is a reproduction part, as is the Chevrolet emblem mounted in the grill. Under each headlight is a custom turn signal made from GM 682-style steel lights welded to the bottom of the headlight buckets. They contain custom resin amber lenses. The headlights feature halogen bulbs. Assisting the lighting is a pair of GM reproduction clear-lens running lights, mounted on the front gravel shields. Rewiring was accomplished with a Ron Francis BareBones II kit. The fuse panel is mounted behind the upholstered right side kick panel. Custom courtesy lights are mounted in the kick panels and illuminate with the dome light when the doors are opened. An aftermarket third taillight is mounted at the top of the rear window for maximum visibility. Speakers for the Secret Audio model SRMS radio are mounted in the kick panels and the package shelf behind the seat. An electric antenna rises when the ignition is turned on, and retracts when it is shut off. A detailed, nine-page description is available upon request.
