Time Capsule 1973 Camaro with 22,xxx ORIGINAL MILES!!!
PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL OF THE DESCRIPTION AND TERMS OF SALE THOROUGHLY!!!! THANKS!!!!!
I have been casually searching for a 1st Gen ('67) Camaro the last year or so. If the right one comes up, I am ready to buy it... In my searches, I came across this '73 Base Model and due to the miles and condition just could not pass it up. I purchased it directly from the estate of the late owner who passed away in 2008. The car was parked in 1978, and did not see the light of day until I removed it from the garage it was stored in for over 40 years.I havebeen going back and forth on whether or not I want to "dig in" to this car....I like pre-'74 Camaros "almost" as much as the 1st Gens, and I know that this thing is the PERFECT starting point for a Pro-Touring style hot-rod build. The other part of me knows that cars like this are getting to be few and far between, and that it would be a shame to modify it. I feel that someone out there more into 2nd Generation Camaros may want to keep this exactly as is... a Factory Original time capsule. I've come to the realization that my heart is set on a 1967 (1st Gen), so I must move this Camaro along to the next owner.
On to the specifics....
1973 Chevrolet Camaro Base model.250 Inline 6 with 3 Speed (floor shift) Manual Saginaw transmission.Basically a "heat and keys" Camaro, but it does have power disc brakes and power steering.
The odometer shows 22,xxx miles, and are believed 100% to be ACTUAL MILES.I was told by 60+ year old son of previous owner that the paint is factory original as it was never painted during his fathers ownership. He bought the car in 1976 from the Chevy dealership in Minneapolis, MN. That said, there are signs (tape line at rocker panel on drivers side, etc) that the car may have received a repaint prior to 1976. There are NO signs of crash damage, so I suspect that it was either a "factory respray" or a "dealership respray" due to poor quality original paint, or damage during shipping? I personally worked as a detailer at a Chevrolet dealership in the late 80's-early 90's and witnessed more than one occasion where a brand new car was damaged in transit, rolled straight into the bodyshop, repaired and repainted and then sold as NEW. This may indeed be one of those cars.
As for the current condition of paint and bodywork.... the body is as straight as one will find anywhere in the country. Yes, there are a few small parking lot dings here and there, but overall, incredibly straight. I would call this car 99% rust free... which is INCREDIBLY RARE in ANY Camaro.. Let alone one that is 46 years old. The 1% is "surface" rust, mostly found on the underside and frame, under the trunk and floor carpets, and with a few small "quarter-sized primer touch-ups" done by original owner. I've given the car a quick bath and run a buffer (3M Finesse-It II) over it to remove some of the "storage grime", so a few of these "primer spots" are now down to bare steel.. The worst of the blemishes are shown in photos. There are also a few spots on both front fenders where the paint is losing adhesion and is showing the red-oxide primer beneath. But as you can see from the photos, this thing....even with its minor blemishes still shows VERY WELL.
This is actually one of those cars, where in my opinion would be the perfect candidate to leave the exterior exactly as it is, and install an LS drivetrain with modern suspension.... A wide set of steelies, and somehow try to maintain those original hubcaps. Would be an amazing Patina-Sleeper!
The tires are believed to be the original 14" Bias-Ply Uniroyals that it left the factory with. A couple of them have a slow leak, so I keep the car blocked up. Even the spare (matches the other 4) is original, and looks as if it has never been removed from its mount in the trunk.Interior..... Well, its Green... and would be in near-perfect condition if it weren't for the handful of cigarette lighter burns (stupid kids) in the front bucket seats, the saggy headliner, and the fact that someone back in the day thought it would be a good idea to cut two speakers into the lower door panels...... All to make that AM radio (original) sound better I guess??Interior still definitely needs a THOROUGH cleaning as there is a layer of dust/dirt/mildew on the majority of surfaces. The good news is that there is very little sign of mice ever having infiltrated the car. I've seen vehicles that were parked for just a couple of years where the mice had completely taken over. This car appears to be remarkably rodent-free.If I were to leave the car original, I would plan on pulling the entire interior out, clean each and every piece and reinstall. There are zero cracks in the dash, instrument panel is nice and bright as this car was never left outside, etc. Once again, just an excellent honest 22,xxx mile car.
Under the hood/mechanicals...At this time, I have made no attempt to start the car. The car rolls, steers and stops when the brake pedal is pushed. I have tried to turn the engine over by hand, but it is "stuck". That is as far as I have taken it. The son of the previous owner remembered that the car ran perfectly fine when it was parked in 1978. I am assuming the rings are probably stuck to the cylinder walls as is apt to happen with any long term car storage where the engine isn't fogged or turned over periodically. Marvel Mystery oil may do the trick at freeing it up. But as mentioned above, my "plan" if I were keeping it would be to install a V8 and a 5 speed, so whether or not the original engine ran did not concern me one bit. Engine compartment appears to be 100% original right down to the original Delco battery.
I could go on and on, but I'll just let the photos tell the rest of the story, so please look them over CAREFULLY!
No matter which direction you are going to take this car..... Hot Rod, Pro Touring, Drag Car, or keeping it ORIGINAL! This is just a SUPER COOL piece of American (Muscle Car?) History!!
Title (1978 Minnesota) is free and clear and ready to be transferred into the new owners name.
Once again, The car is currently a NON-RUNNING PROJECT, so please bid accordingly.
I always try to describe things to the best of my ability as I want prospective buyers to know exactly what they are bidding on/buying. I may have missed a detail or two that is important to you, so please ask questions before bidding!!! Inspections of the car are highly encouraged prior to auctions end as well.
This car is sold 100% AS-IS with no warranties, guarantees, expressed, written or implied! Once again, At the end of the day it is a 46 year old, NON-RUNNING project car.
$500.00 NON REFUNDABLE Paypal Deposit required immediately at auctions' end. Balance to be made in CASH (in person), Cashiers Check from nationally recognized Bank (Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Etc) or Bank wire transfer into my account within 7 business days.If you fail to make full payment within the 7 business days, you forfeit your deposit, and I will sell the car to the next highest bidder, or relist it if so inclined... No exceptions.Car will not be released until funds substantially clear my account or I have cash in hand.If you cannot abide by these terms, please DO NOT BID. I am a fair, but serious seller looking for a serious buyer, and do not have time for tire kickers and time-wasters. Please have all of your finances in order (and permission from you significant other) prior to purchasing vehicle.Car is for sale locally as well, and will be, up until reserve on Ebay has been met. Once reserve is reached, the auction will run its course and car will be sold to the highest Ebay bidder regardless of offers/interest outside of Ebay.
Car must be picked up in Stillwater, MN within 3 weeks of auctions end. Winter is fast approaching here in Minnesota, and I am running short of indoor storage space, so the car needs to go ASAP. It will be kept indoors until pickup. 3 weeks is more than enough time to make pickup/delivery arrangements.I may be able to work with buyer on extended storage, but you must contact me BEFORE auctions end to make said arrangements.
Once again....Please have all of your finances in order and your shipping/pickup arrangements made before auctions end. I am looking for a smooth, seamless sale of this car! I really hope that it goes to a GREAT HOME!!!!
Thank youvery much for looking and have a great day!
