1981 Chevrolet Corvette

1981 was the first year Corvettes were ever produced in two factories at one time. The new Bowling Green, Kentucky plant produced its first Corvette on June 1, 1981 while the St. Louis plant was producing its last Corvettes. The last St. Louis Vette was produced on August 1, 1981. All St. Louis Corvettes were painted with lacquer paints, while the new Bowling Green plant had a brand new paint facility and used enamels with clear top coats. 1981 was the last year a manual transmission was available until late in 1984 with the C4.

For consignment we offer a St. Louis made car, with 68,383 actual miles clocked on it. An overall very clean and nicely presenting car with an interesting Cinnabar interior. This car has the removable roof panels which are smoked glass. Also, a well sorted engine bay in original condition.

Exterior
A nice looking Mahogany Metallic, this is a cool dual chromed tipped rear exiting exhaust car, with correct badging, and a small spoiler flair on the rear. Polished aluminum wheels which are wrapped with Super Star radial G/T's. Two smoked glass removable "T" top panels that are solid and have good flexible weatherstripping surrounding them can be stored in the rear cargo area when they are off.

Interior
Climbing inside we are met with beautiful Medium Cinnabar leather with has a great sheen and is very supple. The buckets and door panels are in excellent condition and are replacing cloth seats that this car came with from the factory. These buckets flank a center console which has a handy storage compartment and races forward toward the dash housing power window controls, and the shift lever. It then gently rolls up into the middle of the dash, where climate controls and an AM/FM/Cassette player are installed well within reach. Climbing up the dash this center panel houses 5 analog gauges with some warning lights and resembles a simplified airplane cockpit. Sitting behind the original steering wheel are the analog tach and speedo. Cinnabar carpet in very good condition covers the floors and the rear cargo area.

Drivetrain
A 190hp 350ci V8 which is fed by a single 4-barrel carburetor and is backed by 4-speed manual transmission. The engine bay presents in overall clean condition and shows little corrosion and some patina surfaces. The engine is numbers matching.

Undercarriage
Very typical of a well-kept/garaged car from 1981 with 68K miles on it, with no rust or structural defects. It appears to have all the original C3 equipment suspension wise, and 4-wheel power disc brakes.

Drive-Ability
You cannot help being transported back in time sitting in this wonderful clean interior that is comfortable and affords plenty of room. The car started right up, idled smoothly, and takes off with snappy acceleration. Shifting is smooth, and all controls including AC work flawlessly.

This is a nice used 'Vette for the enthusiast who wants to enter the Corvette game for a reasonable price. 1981 Corvettes have been fairly solid in the retaining value market, and are sought after by the person who likes the C3 body style from the early 1980's It is a nice color combination and the interior screams early 80's with its Cinnabar leather seats and panels.
