So much happened in that decade and the Corvette was no exception! That 10 year span actually covered three generations! It was the last three years for the C-1. the entire C-2 generation and the first two years for the C-3! But. we're going to focus on the '65. This was indeed a milestone year for Corvette. It was a year of significant "firsts" and "lasts". The introduction of the '65 brought with it 4-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment for the first time in Corvette history. Although. a credit delete of $65. 00 was offered for those die-hard drum brake fans. But. only a bit over 300 decided to choose the drums. Another first was the introduction of the 396 big block engine. This monster pumped out 425hp along with stump pulling torque! This engine wasn't offered until about halfway into the model run. Another milestone in '65 was the passing of the Fuel Injected 327. It would be 19 years until fuel injection would re-emerge in the '84. But. this time in electronic. not mechanical form. Fuel Injection was a rare option in '65 with only 771 being built across the board. But. it was a screamer! With 375hp on tap. and mechanical lifters. it revved freely and eagerly up to its 6500 R. P. M. Redline! It was an impressive car to drive and look at. especially when you lifted the hood! Which brings us to our featured car . . . This Glen Green rocket has had an interesting history having once been owner by automotive publishing giant M. F. Dobbins. The car was even featured on his popular Corvette Fact Book series. It's an older N. C. R. S. Top Flight Award winner. The older frame off #'s matching restoration incorporated much of the original parts including most of the interior. Options include leather seats.
