This is the ultimate old-school tow mule-A 1980 Chevrolet 1 ton Crew-Cab 4X4. It began life as a long bed(which all of them did) truck but this truck has had the frame shortened by Z cuts with plating to fit the short box bed. With the long wheelbase and the short bed. it'll still fit in the garage but pulls like a dream. Now for the specifics- The drive train- This truck has a new custom built 500ci(stroked 454) fuel-injected stroker motor with less than 5K miles which the rotating assembly was balanced. built with forged pistons with a final compression of 9:1. extensive head work including lots of port work and Comp Cams roller tip rockers and hardened pushrods. It also has a Comp Cams retrofit roller camshaft so the worries of the lack of zinc in the oil isn't a problem. The camshaft was degreed to have the power come in just off of idle and be done by 5000rpm. The motor was built for torque to pull and not a 8000RPM drag race motor. The truck also has a new 4L80E electronic transmission with a Hughes top end tow-master converter. And to top off all of that. it has a Gear Vendors under/overdrive unit behind the 205 transfer case. So with the 4 speeds in the transmission. a lock up converter. and the Gear Vendor. you can really let this motor rip with anything behind it because you can find the perfect RPM by splitting gears to get the RPM in the sweet spot. The motor has also been fitted with a late-style Vortec intake to take advantage of the low end torque this motor makes. The motor is run by an aftermarket fully programmable Fuel Air Spark Technology(F. A. S. T. ) ECU that runs a wide-band O2 sensor and the transmission is run by a TCI transmission controller. Both the ECU and the TCU are fully programmable to any combination you can think of. It's cooled by a new 4 core brass radiator and an AC Delco RV fan clutch. This truck is also fitted with 315/70-17 BFG A/T tires that have about 6K miles on them which are wrapped around some Robbie Gordon wheels. These wheels are really rare to see on any other trucks which are why I like them more than the Walker Evans Wheels. The truck has a king pin Dana 60 front axle and a 14 bolt rear. Both axles run 4. 10 gears also. Mileage wise I'd guess it gets about 12-16mpg unloaded. It's a guess because I never top off the 90 gallon tank to get an accurate number. The body- I'm sure I'll miss a lot of small things because I take for granted how this truck has been put together. Starting from the front. the front wheel wells have been pie cut back on the rear side for more clearance (with stock springs) which is not noticeable at all. the door hinge faces have been plated on the insides of the doors to fix the common door sagging problems that these trucks have. the spare tire is inset verticly into the bed for more clearance instead of under the bed mounting. The truck also has a custom made 90 gallon fuel tank with an in-tank pump. The tank itself runs the length of the bed and with 90 gallons you can drive longer than your bladder can handle. The body is showing some scale rust at the lower edge of the rear doors and the rear of the rear wheel wells have some rust as seen in the pics. The rust is from running MANY miles on the gravel roads in northern AZ and those rocks pecking the body. The rust on the doors is scale rust since it got up under the paint from the rock chips. The paint on the body is pretty good condition but does show some wear. It does have some hail damage however from a few years ago though. The hood and the roof of the cab did get some pecking but I'd imagine that the new owner would paint the truck another color so some filler on both would fix all of that. I'm sure that I'm missing a lot of stuff but that's the best that I can do off of the top of my head. I have over $15K invested just in the past 2 year on the drive train and tires but I'm ready to move on to something else. Call me for more information and do not text. (6O2)391-7573
