1978 Camaro Z/28
Well, If you're looking for a '78 Camaro to restore that you can drive and have fun with, this is the one. Being a factory T-Top, Z, 4 Speed with Posi, Turbine Wheel car, It's the one worth putting the time into, and the one that holds its value the best. All of the details you need are below to make the best decision you can for what's in your budget and what you're buying.
Firstly, The Body on this car is in absolutely incredible shape, and was oringally Blue with Black interior. As you are probably aware the typical rust areas are floors, Trunks, Rockers and Quarters on these cars. This car has 2 Very Small easily repairable rust areas in the rear quarters as shown in the photos. Very little welding needed. No Panels Needed AT ALL. This car was undercoated at some point in time, and the floors, trunk and rockers are absolutely fantastic.Other than the the 2 rust spots on the quarters, this car's body is absolutely great. Even a novice body man could repair these with ease. Doors close solidly, and everything seems to seal up very well. T-Tops area in great shape as are the surrounds that hold them. Call me a liar, but they don't leak, either. Some of the Rubber door seals are a little tired and should be replaced, but one would do that when it's paint time anyway. Car currently has a 3" fiberglass Cowl hood, but also comes with the rust free original flat hood. other than some tired paint showing some chips and a the rust in the quarters Presents very well. The hood hinges are a little weak or incorrect and the hood needs a prop to stay up. The Hood also fits pretty tight to the windshield and the car doesn't have wiper arms on it (probably for clearance) but i haven't tried to put them on.
Mechanically The car has what appears to be a 350/350 Crate Motor paired to a M21 4 Speed and Original 10 bolt Posi 3:73 Gear rear end and runs like a top. Starts with "2 pumps" and shifts wonderfully. Car is a ton of fun to drive with power to spare. ( I also have the original Numbers 350 11:1 Block Included in the sale.) Car has headers with 2.5 (maybe 3") exhaust and just sounds wonderful.. though is not run fully to rear of car, so it does get a bit of a loud drone at 70mph.New Battery, Belts, hoses, Power steering Pump and lines and tune up items. Car HAS had the heater AC box removed previously and is missing- i was told it wouldn't clear the headers. 1 Known Issue is either a weak Power Brake Booster, or possibly Vacuum Line which gives it a bit of a hard break pedal. I drive it without issue, but you do need to ease into it or they're a bit grabby. Just haven't had time to deal with it. Running/Driving Wise, this is a turn key car, and again, just a blast to drive.
Electrically, Everything seems to work. Interior/exterior Lights, Trunk light, Key buzzer, Seat belt lights, Lighter... All of that seems fine. Looks like when the motor was Put in they didn't ground the tach properly so it's not functioning, and I don't believe the gas gauge is 100% accurate, but does work. Speedo and other gauges just fine. Cassette Player seems to work, and comes with a copy of Pantera/Vulgar Display of Power Cassette. Manual Windows work well... T-Tops work as expected and are in good shape.
Interior isn't the very best, but very serviceable. Front seats are comfortable but need recovered for sure. Has some seat covers on them now, and they're presentable, but really needs seats re-done. Back seat is fine. Headliner is fine. Dash is good, and not busted up/cracked. Console Lid is broken needs replaced and there are some cigaretter burns in the top of the console, but it's decent otherwise. Carpet is ok. I noticed theres some overspray on the interior here and there... like a light dusting. I wiped some of it down with some thinnner and it started to come off but you don't really notice it unless you're really looking.
I personally think the car could use some rear shocks in the future as well as the brake booster issue... I meant to mount the flat hood back on it, but noticed the air cleaner is a little on the tall side and will probably need changed for clearance on the lower hood. . I DO have the original air cleaner for the car, as well as a box if small parts.Still has the original GM trunk mat, GM floor mats and GM T-Top Covers.
Overall this is really a fun car to drive, and i'm not just saying that. It runs exceptionally well and handles well.. and it's sloppy and worn out. it has some rattles and squeeks here and there, but almost all do. It really needs a paint job and some seat covers and nice jean jacket and you'll really have a killer car.
If i've forgotten anything just shoot me a message and i'll address whatever you need. I'm not hiding anything and neither is the car. Turn Key Driver Camaro, with almost every great feature you could want.
