Offered for sale is a very nice recently restored 1968 Chevrolet SS396 El Camino. This is the real deal. not a clone. This car was purchased in 2010 and underwent a 2 year restoration. It was not a frame off but just about. It was a mess when I bought it. The prior owner did a restoration but not a very good one. They spent a lot of money on new chrome and the mechanics. The engine started out. I believe as a L35 (325hp). which was the base engine for the car. The engine has been modified which modified its hp rating (unknown how much). It has a gear driven cam (don't know the specs). a high rise manifold and a double pumper Holley carb. (again. I don't know the specs). Compression is good. 165-170 all cylinders. The engine. transmission and front end were strong when I bought it. but the rear end wasn't. I had the brakes. rear end. drive shaft gone through with new bushings. rebuilt drive shaft and brakes. So before I started the cosmetic restoration. the car was solid. The VIN and engine have matching numbers but the transmission was originally a manual tranny (not sure wether a 3 or 4 speed) but it has a TH400 automatic now. I did the cosmetic restoration. inside and out. The exterior of the car was stripped to bare metal. any rusted areas replaced and/or properly treated (there is no sign of recurring rust now 2 years later). The interior was completely re-done and everything works. Spent a lot of $$ on replacement parts. It has a Custom Auto Sound stereo. electric antenna. carpet dash pad and full car cover. All the interior has been replaced. headliner. seat buns & covers. dash components. speedo serviced. Too much else to list. The chrome is all in excellent condition. no pitting etc. Lots of rubber. Front tires older than the rears. but still great condition. American Mag wheels. larger on the rear than front. This is a California car (built in Fremont. CA). You really need to come see it. The only thing I would like to have which it doesn't. would be power disc brakes (easy fix) and air conditioning. (not an easy fix). I have all the receipts and there are 4 pages of stuff that I bought/replaced or had done. I also have pictures of the restoration process. If you have any questions or would like to see additional pictures. please let me know. and thanks for looking. For sale and located in Torrance.
