The Indy 500 was run on May 30, 1993. Over 300,000 people were in attendance. It was the 77th running of the race. The winner was Emerson Fitapaldi of Brazil. The Grand Marshal of the race was Larry Bird. This pace car was the 28th in production sequence. It was one of only 125 Festival cars built. A total of 633 pace cars were produced, 125 Indy Festival cars, 20 Canadian built cars and 500 were built and sent to the top Camaro selling dealerships.
The 1993 Camaro was the first car to be honored as a pace car for the 4th time. This was the first factory car built to pace the 500. The only modification made to the actual pace car was the addition of safety harnesses, a roll bar, radio equipment, and strobe lights. Previous Camaro pace cars were 1967, 1969 and 1982. This car was assigned to Denny Norman of the Indy 500 committee and given plate number 10. The following year he was Chairman of the Committee.
Engine is 5.7 liter V8 (the Corvette LT1) 350 Cubic inches, 275 HP, 325 ft. torque at 2400 RPM, 10.5 Compression Ratio, 16 inch Alloy Wheels, 4 wheel ABS Brakes, automatic 4 speed transmission. It was considered the 4th generation Camaro. All Festival cars were optioned the same way, including T-Tops
