Car description |
---|
1966 Chevrolet C60 Stake truck with 14' bed. Truck runs and was being used on highways from time to time for farm purposes up until last year. Passed state inspection in 2016 -- the last year that NJ required trucks to be inspected. Tires were all replaced a while back and have very little wear. Truck bed is in very good shape. Engine is the standard 292 ci in-line 6 cylinder and has been running OK. 4-speed transmission OK. Fenders are rotted and should be replaced. Lower corners of cab should also be replaced if plans are to restore it. Possibly same with door skins and rocker panels. Body supports appear OK. Back of cab and roof in excellent shape except for the cab corners already mentioned. Odometer works and mileage reflects actual mileage (65771.) There are some issues with the brakes that prevent me from saying that it's drivable as is. The right front brake cylinder leaks and that same brake grabs and pulls to the right when brakes are applied. When truck sets for a long time, wheel skids for a bit until brake drum frees up. I'll sum up the brake issue by saying that if I were to take the truck out on the road today, I'd have to bleed the brakes first and then maintain the brake fluid level on a daily or regular basis (as was being done in the past.) Buyer should plan on having the truck towed or transported from 07860 (Newton, NJ.)
History of ownership: Truck was purchased new by U.S. Army (DOD) for use in transporting explosives... at least that's what the placards said. The truck was then purchased from the DOD for our farm use, sometime back in the mid- to late-seventies.
