Description

This is Revised. Now, About the Revisions.
  • I was told to lower the opening bid to get this going.
  • I have been asked some questions. So,I put a little more information, below.
  • I was also asked about taking a low ball offer. Not going to happen.
  • IntroI bought her on 10/23/03 from a fellow who needed to raise money for property taxes. I like to call her Black Betty as in the song Black Betty (Bam-ba-Lam) by Lead Belly later recorded by Ram Jam in '77.
The StoryLike most of us, he loved muscle cars & had several in various stages of restoration. His story on this one: His father was a car dealer in IL. In 1969, he & his father were driving & saw this car for sale. It was too much car for the elderly couple. His father bought it through his dealership & the son drove it. They bought more cars & got interested in Corvettes. Then, he started his own restoration project. Stopped. Started another. Got interested in cigarette boats & never got back to her. He thought one day...
Sold To Pay TaxesHis wife told him to sell all of his projects; they needed to pay the property taxes on their farm & had other bills to pay.
My FindHe introduced her to me in a silo; Itold you it was on a farm. She had been there for probably 30 years. There were lots of boxes. He explained thatI am the 2nd owner according to the title work (because it was in a dealer's name).
My RemodelI took it to a body shop who loved these cars. I bought all new electrical, new windows, & replaced anything that needed it while trying to keep it original. I did add power brakes & power steering (which can be removed). I painted it the original colors of Tuxedo Black with Bolero Red.
    • Rebuilt Original Engine
    • Rebuilt Original Transmission
    • Added Power Brakes & Power Steering
    • New Interior; including, but not limited to carpet
    • Headlamps work (I just paid another $4,000 for that, getting the horn just right, to ensure the windshield wipers work, & more +++)
    Since the Remodel
    • I haven't put any miles on her. Literally. In 16 years, it has traveled more by enclosed trailer than its wheels have hit pavement.
    • I have another project car in a body shop that has sapped my energy.
    • I have another muscle car that I put in one of my warehouses in another state. I don't drive it, either. It is fully restored.
    • I brought this one up from my warehouse in another state to Chicago to drive. I don't have space at my home, so I put in self-storage.
    What's Wrong With Her?
Just the nit-picky things I would like to do. I might repaint her. She has metal back seats, I might uncover them. It is a radio-delete model (factory without radio). I might add music. I need the little chrome pieces on the convertible top. I started to put some reprinted tags/decals (radiator, air cleaner, etc.) so it would look original. Then, I stopped. I just don't have the time.
Why Am I Selling Her?Simple. I'm not enjoying her. No Time! My turn is up. It's your turn.
How Much Do I Have In?How much do I have in? I really don't want to add up how much I have in. You can: I paid about $7,000 for the boxes; I paid another $20,000 powder-coating the frame, new wiring etc., putting her back together; I paid about $15,000 (or more) in parts (such as new windows, windshield, new top, new interior, new motors for the headlamp doors, new emblems, etc., another $10,000 in misc. mechanical including, but not limited to re-building the engine & transmission. Probably, over $53,000.
How Much Do I Want?First, I don't need the money. Second, I own warehouses. So, I can store it forever. Third, I will not sell her just to sell her. I think she's worth in the 40's. So, if you want something to be proud of, buy this one. If you want a project or one with a salvage title, there are plenty of others. If you have always wanted a low mileage, beautiful, black & red, RS convertible...then, this is for you. Hurry & place a bid. Remember, this is as-is, so do your homework. I'm not a dealer or a trader. I'm a guy who loves these cars & I hope someone like me buys her.
About The PicturesIn reverse chronological order. (1) Taking it from a shop to the self-storage. (2) I had it in this shop to spend another $4,000 more & got the headlamp doors working & some other minor stuff. (3) Shots in front of my house when I brought it back from my warehouse (4) Pre-Restoration.
Can You See It?Absolutely. However, it is in a suburb of Chicago in a Self-Storage Facility. If we can coordinate something before the auction sells her, I'm happy to do so.
