Car description

1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible 348 Tri-power Rare Option Car

Same owner for the last 30+ years. Older no-expense-spared restoration but still very slick! Super nice driver.

I bought this car around 1985. In 2003 I spent more than $70,000 to restore an already slick original car. Many First Place and Best of Show awards. Not perfect by any means but certainly one of the nicest in the country.

UPDATES: At the time this rust-free, no accident car was restored, many parts were updated (modern comfort features) without changing the appearance, to make it drive and handle like a new car - rather than it did when it was new 59 years ago. Dual bowl master cylinder, alternator vs generator, electric fans, etc. All of the original parts have been saved and are included with the sale of the car - so that later it can easily be returned to all original, if so desired. No new holes were drilled or body modifications made.

DRIVE TRAIN: The original 348 Tri-power engine, standard bore, (335hp I was told) and newer Turbo 400 transmission were rebuilt and gone through top to bottom. *I did not save the old 2-speed transmission, valve covers or the original 14" wheels.

HVAC: The original heater, defroster, air conditioning and ductwork were removed (and saved) - then replaced with a modern, far more efficient system - without drilling any new holes or cutting any metal. The new HVAC controls are hidden away in the glove box. The original ac vents were used to keep it looking original. The old system can easily be switched back if so desired, without a trace of any modern modifications.

STEERING: The original steering gearbox was removed and replaced with a tight ratio modern box. Again, the old gearbox could easily be switched back if so desired, without a trace of any modern modifications.

BRAKES: The rear brakes are original drum style. To make this beast stop like a new car, the front brakes were switched out with TWO SETS (each wheel) of modern Wilwood drilled and slotted power disc brakes with dual piston, dual calipers, on both sides. This car will now stop on a dime. Please Note: The original 14" wheels will no longer fit on the car with these dual disc brakes. The 22”s are the same height overall and do not raise the height of the car.

THE BAD

I have purchased numerous vehicles sight-unseen off eBay and other sites over the years and have found that many sellers will often attempt to skim over many of the problems. I believe in full disclosure. With that said, if I were to look hard enough, long enough, I could probably find a few other issues worth mentioning. I am not representing this car as perfect showroom condition or as a show car. I have tried to identify and disclose the major issues, as I see them. It is, however, a stunningly beautiful and very reliable driver. Nice enough to turn every head but not too nice to actually drive.

PAINT AND BODY: While the paint still looks really nice, there are a couple of very minor door dings to the paint, so minor I couldn't get pics of them. They are hardly noticeable until you put it up on a lift and look at them straight on. I have it in the paint shop now to have these minor dings corrected. I do not see any signs of rust anywhere on the car.

TRIM: A couple of pieces of the trim are not as perfect as they could be. The front grill looks great but has a small dent in it, which may easily be knocked out. Overall, however, most of the trim looks pretty darn good.

The carpet is newer, and for a daily driver car it looks great, but is not good enough to show.

The steering wheel and one of the dash gauge surrounds have a couple of small (smaller than bb size) paint chips.

A couple of the 3/16" thin decorative pieces of "chrome" sticky tape trim on the door panels are missing or needing replaced. I think this can be purchased by the roll and applied without tools.

The spare wheel has a minor curb scrape.

The auto headlight kick down and cruise control have never worked since I've owned the car and may not be hooked up. I don't think the radio antennas are hooked up either. The radio works but gets a weak signal. The speaker(s) may not be good.

The gear selector indicator on the steering wheel column for the transmission gears still reflects a 2-speed. Not a big deal, but not correct for show.

The valve covers and air cleaners are not original to the car.

I can deliver by trailer the car anywhere for a modest fee. Clear Kansas title in hand. Frame VIN and door VIN match the title. This is not a salvage yard pieced together car.Currentlylocated in Wichita Ks. 67214
