This 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is a sharp example of the model in its nostalgia-inducing first year, first generation form. It's as fresh as can be off a restoration that's left it looking great both inside and out and the level of era-appropriate authenticity this classic displays under its hood is likely to put a smile on the face of even the most exacting of Chevy purists. The two-tone exterior paint scheme combines a very clean Milk Shake White foundation with a Hot Rod matte black hood for great vintage look. There's a very strong urethane clearcoat on top to lend an appealing shine and you'd be hard pressed to find any blemishes. Both the front and rear bumpers are in very clean condition and, if you were to take a lap around the car, you'd see that the front grille is also in great shape and new emblems have been added for a fresh, vital look. The exterior alignment on this Chevelle looks good from all angles - that matte black hood lines up well with the front fenders to each side and nice even gaps surround the doors, hood and deck lid. Clear glass surrounds the cabin and new weather stripping has been added to keep the elements from intruding. Yep, this is a very road ready classic. Peek your head inside the window and you can see right away that the black vinyl interior hasn't so much been restored as it's been replaced almost entirely from scratch. The bench seating in front and back look showroom-clean and feature a thoroughly era-appropriate appearance, as do the door panels on each side. Look down and you'll see an expanse of new black carpeting, while above you'll find a very nicely fitted fresh headliner. The dash area on this classic looks particularly nice - the chrome instrument panel looks just as it did when this Chevy drove off the showroom floor, with its functional factory gauges joined by a trio of SunPro displays just below. At the center sits a very retro-looking Custom Autosound AM/FM stereo with iPod connectivity that teams with a pair of Fosgate speakers on the package tray to fill the interior with quality sound. This Chevelle left the factory with air conditioning already on board but has since been upgraded to an R134a system for easy servicing and it's in fine working condition ready to keep you comfortable. The trunk area has been nicely finished with custom panels and well-fitted carpeting. The 283 cubic inch V8 occupying center stage in the engine compartment shows suffix code "JD" which is correct for this car and thus believed to be the original. It carries a factory 2 barrel carb underneath its black air cleaner and continues to acquit itself well, starting right up with a turn of the key and running strong and smooth. The engine pairs with a period-correct 2-speed automatic Powerglide transmission that's still offering slip-free shifting. An HEI distributor has been added to deliver just the right amount of voltage for optimum sparking, while the Flowmaster dual exhaust provides a very pleasing note. This is a strong driving classic - it's got a good solid ride and its power steering makes for easy navigation as it cruises on its set of 14" steel wheels whose painted centers and Chevy-branded center caps are nice finishing touches. A look below reveals an impressively solid-looking undercarriage.
