1966 Grumman-Olsen Step-Van I’ve owned this step-van for almost 24 years. I’m feeling reluctant to sell it as I was going to put a SBC engine in it. remove the paint. polish the aluminum exterior and add some cool wheels. BUT. dreams change and I’m pretty sure I will not get the time. My work is in design. I love the look of aluminum. I had the pleasure of designing Airstream’s 75th Anniversary Bambi trailer in 2007. My studio builds custom trailers. This was originally a delivery vehicle for American Laundry in Grand Rapids. MI. and it was painted yellow. It was purchased at auction at American Laundry when they updated their fleet in the late 80’s. A friend of mine purchased it. He repainted the exterior. added the Hurst 3-speed floor shifter and added a newer steering column. I bought it from him a few years after. He was carpenter and used it to haul his tools. As you probably already know. Grumman’s van bodies are riveted aluminum. This step-van is on a Chevy special purpose chassis and the motor is a Chevy 235 6 cyl. I removed the one-barrel and added a two-barrel right after I bought it as it really helped with overall performance. Top speed is 60mph. As I recall. I also had a rebuilt head installed and had the rear main seal replaced. Also new shocks. tires and exhaust system. I used the truck when I was building sets and props for films and commercials. Even though it’s a very short wheel-base [104”] the truck holds a remarkable amount of stuff. The truck can easily make a u-turn on a residential street. This vehicle never let me down. Ever. Always started on the coldest Michigan mornings. [manual choke] before it was parked on my property. My German Shepherd used to sit on the dash area when I was running errands. But. times change. I moved from the historic downtown area of Grand Rapids to the country and the truck has been parked on the property and it’s sat unused. It’s not been started for several years. I was beginning to replace the headlamps but didn’t for one reason or another. They are available from a step van parts supplier. When I was taking pics I noticed that a chipmunk may have tried to start it but couldn’t reach the clutch pedal. The tires are a bit weather checked but hold air. Do not plan on driving the vehicle away. Assume that it needs to ride on a flatbed. This is a pretty rare single axle body-style. I’ve always thought the front end looked like the “Little Engine That Could” I do have a few spare parts and some window glass that I obtained from American Laundry. They still had spares after selling off the trucks. These will be included in the sale. The actual mileage of the truck is unknown. I added approx 20k. This would certainly make a fantastic shop truck/hot rod. Or special purpose vending truck. When living in the city. at least once a month someone would ring my bell and ask if I would sell it. I’m happy to answer any questions. I’m sure I’ve forgotten to mention one thing or another. If you have no feedback you must contact me before bidding or your bid will be cancelled. I’ve tried to describe the vehicle to the best of my ability but I’m sure I’ve missed details. Please bid in confidence. I’m a long time Ebayer with 100% feedback. Winning bidder to pay $500 deposit via Paypal within 24 hrs of auction close. Balance within 14 days in cash. This is the only form of payment accepted. Thanks and good luck!
