With a performance-built 355 V8, modern metallic paint, an A/C interior, and plenty of other upgrades, we would like to call this 1980 Chevrolet Malibu a sleeper, but this coupe has just been so well customized that it can't help but make an impression. The chiseled good looks of this GM has aged rather well, and the real secret behind this one is the level of quality. This coupe is the product of a five-year restoration that was completed in 2017. It has a great presence with the Gunmetal Gray paint that has a terrific modern luster, and the burgundy pinstripe that highlights the proper fit of the sheet metal. Plus, the bright bumpers and Rally wheels are great classic Americana. But the blacked-out grille, tinted windows, backed-out b-pillar, and a blacked-out rear panel are a nice custom touch to hint at this coupe's dark side. We love it when the exterior pinstripe is also a preview of the interior color. The split front bench seat has a great factory-style pattern, and it means there are seat belts for up to six people. This restored interior was definitely built to keep family and friends comfortable with features like an upgraded AM/FM/CD/HD stereo with aux input and modern R134a air conditioning. But no matter how many people are along for the ride, the moment you turn the key, you know this machine is all about the driver. You can tell this restoration was a labor of love just by the engine bay. There's less than 2,000 miles on this since completion, and so you can still see the details cleanly. They took the time to paint many of the details the same burgundy that matches the interior and exterior pinstripe, so this is one fantastically coordinated classic. But more than just look great, the 350 cubic-inch V8 was rebuilt, bored .30 over (355ci total), and fortified with components like a flat tappet cam and 202 .64cc heads. It inhales deeply through an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with authority from the MagnaFlow dual exhaust. But more than just the power and sound, you'll enjoy this one on the road, because it has the right features. The thick sway bar up front, new urethane bushings, a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, limited slip rear end, and front disc brakes make this a great all-around solid driver. Complete with build receipts and restoration photos, this cool little Malibu delivers big in the areas that matter most. You don't need to spend a big pile of cash to have a bunch of fun, and this car is proof. Call now!
