PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING AS I HAVE ADDED INFO
Up for auction is my 73 Malibu. I bought this from the little old lady originalowner in 2004 with only 50000 miles. Its been kept in my garage ever since and only drive occasionallyto car shows and short "Sunday" drives. I changed it over from a bench seat to swivel buckets. It has the correct center console for a floor shift but I never changed it over to a floor shift. Has a RCA am fm 8-track. 8 track works but AM FM doesn'twork. I added the 14 inch Chevy rally wheels. Car runs, drives, shifts and stops fine. The cam has a lobe that is going bad so that will need to be replaced. I am selling it to make room, too many projects.
interior is good, original floor mats. Vehicle was rust proofed when new. Frame is solid. had one small rust spot under the drivers floor which was patched. trunk is solid with only surface rust.
known issues: As mentioned above cam is going bad, I had the Malibu looked at by 2 different mechanics and both said it needs a new cam. This was diagnosed by driving and listening to the car. nothing was pulled, could it be something else, maybe. my plans were to replace the engine or have it rebuilt. It needs tires (very old but holds air), there is a rust spot behind the right rear wheel on the fender (shown in photo) and some rust on the top of the right rear fender where the vinyl top meets the body. The right front fender has a dent on the wheel lip that doesn't show in the photos but is noticeable. I am including a nice replacement fender from a 75 Malibu. The paint looks good from 25 feet. When I put a new carpet in I cut the sides too short I put in a patch but to be perfect you should replace it.
Good honest car. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for looking, Happy bidding.
Thanks for all the interest. I am going to list some of the questions here. The engine is original. the intake, carb and headers were added several years ago after I bought the Malibu. I don't have those items any more. I am located about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh PA, I live very close to the PA turnpike, I-79, Rt. 19 and Rt. 8. I have plenty of room to load the Malibu on a trailer. I foundthat the fuel gauge is not accurate after half a tank any more. The passenger seat needs tightened down a little. Yes the Mountain 8-track will come with the Malibu I will even include 4 more 8-tracks with the sale. If you have any additional questions please ask me. I am hoping the Malibu finds a good home with someone that will care for it and enjoy it as I have.
Couple of people have contacted me and said they think the problem may be a lifter and not the cam. A bad cam would send metal throughout the engine causing damage. a bad lifter would not. I changed the oil and ran a magnet through the old oil and found no metal pieces. I just wanted to share any info that I have so that you can make an informed decision.
Sold as is, where is. Good title in my name.
