You know that I absolutely LOVE the engines that Big Al's Toy Box builds up in CT, and we have had a half dozen machines powered by them roll through our doors over the years.
This one is a 1967 Chevy Chevelle MALIBU "no post" hardtop, and it was the result of a 3 year build that was finished up in 2004.
The car is finished in correct Madiera Maroon paint, and it looks great from every angle. The car has been driven and enjoyed since completion, so it does show a few minor blemishes like tiny stone chips and things, but certainly nothing that takes away from the cars overall presentation.
The paint is very smooth, shiny, and glossy, and I tried to take photos in the sun as well as shade to show you how nice it looks.
Tasteful stripes on the sides of the car are actually painted on, and look very good, but also show a mark or two from normal use and wear.
Thankfully, a box full of touch up paint for every color on the car is included, in case you need to touch anything up down the road.
The body is VERY solid and straight, and you can take a 4" felt covered magnet and run it over every single part of the body and it sticks like glue.
There is a complete photo book that comes with the car, documented the original condition of the project all the way to the finished product.
Glass is clean and clear all around, and the "no post" hardtop body looks VERY cool with all the windows down when cruising.
Chrome, trim, and bright work on the car is in very good condition, and the only thing I could think of that you could possibly do to any of it would be to touch up the flat black on the grill and rear fascia panel. Other than that, it shows really nicely.
Chrome 8-whole wheels from American Racing are what the prior owner wanted when it was built, and still look like new with no pitting or curb damage.
Tires are DEFENDER SPORT radials, and are recent additions, with only about 1,000 miles on them, and NO damage or issues.
Headlights, tail lamps, parking lights, turn signals, horn, reverse lights, and wipers all work like they should.
Emblems and badging on the car shows wonderfully.
All seals and weather stripping on the car is in very good condition, and soft to the touch.
Inside, you'll find an interior that is in excellent condition, and damage free.
Bucket seats up front in great condition, with no rips, tears, stains, or seam pulls.
Seat back have typical scuffs and marks on the plastic from normal use, but no damage.
Rear seat looks perfect, and has zero issues.
Door panels are clean and solid, and have no issues.
Window rollers, door pulls, and locks all look great.
Headliner is in very good condition, and has a functioning dome light in the center of it.
Package shelf is in great shape.
Kick panels and side panels look great, and the carpeting is like new throughout the car.
Dash is very clean and straight, and shows wonderfully.
Factory switches for lights, wipers, and cigar lighter all look good, but show light natural wear.
Radio surround and glove box trim looks great, and the glove box works as it should.
Radio is AM FM Cassette, and works like it should.
Gauge panel is very nice, and the fuel, speedometer, and clock all work as they should.
Under the dash, aftermarket gauges were added to monitor engine vitals. AutMeter supplied the giant tachometer with shift light, while Pro-Comp supplied the water temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, and volt gauges.
An iDidit tilt column was added, and topped with a GRANT GT wheel, all of which show wonderfully.
A HURST Pro-Matic 2 shifter looks as great as it works, and lets you safely bang through the gears.
Overall, the interior is in exceptionally good condition.
Now for the good stuff! Under the hood lies a 454 stroked to 468ci and fit with a 8-71 supercharger for some extra oomph.
The specs show it to be 735 Horsepower @ 6,256 rpm with 645 ft lbs of Torque@ 4,944 rpm and it you will feel EVERY BIT OF THAT when you mash the gas pedal down.
It consists of a Dart Block, Eagle Cast Steel Crank, Eagle 7/16 Rods, Comp Cams 650/650 Roller Cam, Roller Lifters, Complete Rotating Assembly Balanced, 8.5 to 1 Compression, Forged Pistons, Manley Valves, Comp Cams Chrome Moly Retainers & Locks, Comp Cams Springs, Roller Rockers, Polished Intake, BDS 8-71 Supercharger, twin Edelbrock Performer 800 cfm blower carbs, Custom Linkage, Fuel Lines, Polished Scoop with K&N Filters, Funnycar Style Belt Guard, and more.
Like I said earlier, I have had a BUNCH of cars with Big Al's motors in them, and they have all been the most easy to operate, fail-safe, and trouble-free power plants you could ask for.
Give it half a pump on the gas pedal, let the fuel pressure build for a sec, and turn the key. Hot or cold, the car starts with ease, and idles cleanly right off the bat, with a nice lope.
It runs fantastic on 91 pump gas, but you can add a little racing fuel from time to time for a little extra kick.
Right now, with a tankful of premium unleaded, the car will flat get up and go.
Snick the shifter into DRIVE, and the TH400 that was application built for the car will send power down the balanced driveshaft to the GM 12-bolt posi-traction rear end with 3.73 gears and performance axle splines.
A Champion show polished radiator is fit with twin electric fans to keep this incredibly cool, and the car will NOT get over 185 degrees, even sitting in traffic on a 100 degree Florida day!
Underneath, the frame was finished in gloss black, and shows great, although it is a little dirty from being driven.
Floor pans are clean, neat, and show wonderfully.
Fuel tank was new when the car was built, and is still clean and nice.
All lines, wiring, and hoses are in very good condition, and there are no known issues with the vehicle at this time.
Brakes are power assisted, and the car has drums out back with disc up front. It all works together to slow the car easily with no pulling, wander, or excessive fade.
Manual steering is pretty light thanks to the smaller steering wheel and modern radial tires, but lets you feel "connected" to the car when you are blasting down the quarter mile.
The car drives really well, and if you keep your foot out of it, it feels like you're just cruising in a regular big-block Chevelle. It tackles in town driving with ease, and doesn't run hot or vapor lock or anything else.
The gearing lets it hit the highway with a sweet spot of about 65 with the 3.73 ratio currently in the car. It tracks straight, doesn't pull or wander, and feels very stable at all speeds.
It's been driven a lot since completed, and is certainly not just a show car. You can take this thing on a long cruise without concern, and get surprisingly decent fuel economy too, as long as you can avoid mashing the gas pedal down.
I got the car from the builder/prior owner, who's owned it since 2001 when the project was started. He built it for his wife, and she had it in Hot Cars of Connecticut magazine, as well as at many shows throughout CT and FL.
So if you're looking for a clean, well-maintained, reliable, proven, and ready to show Street Machine, this one might be the one for you.
I took 130 photos of it from every angle I could, and I encourage you to ask questions, come see it, or arrange for an inspection if you want to PRIOR TO BUYING IT.
I don't have anything to hide, and have tried to cover every part of the vehicle as best I could.
The vehicle is located in our Fort Myers, FL warehouse, and is just 20 minutes away from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) if you want to fly in and see it.
I welcome outside inspection services BEFORE YOU BUY OR BID.
