Car description |
---|
This 1965 Caprice is being offered for sale for only the second time in its 53 year existence. This car is in unbelievable un-restored (survivor) condition. I have had custody of this car for the past 11 years and have done just a few minor things since ownership. (see below) This car is wearing ALL of its original sheet metal AND paint! The paint is still shiny and not worn through, the factory painted on pin striping is still in perfect condition, the paint color is Evening Orchid, this was a GM 1965 only color. There is not even a hint of rust anywhere on the body. The lush cloth interior in this car is also 100% original without any signs of wear whatsoever. In my 11 years of ownership I have increased the odometer by only 1,158 trouble free miles. Current mileage at posting is 72,693 original miles.
The 1965 Caprice was a 1/2 model year introduction that was first unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, February 20-28th 1965, this was one of the first made. This special order car was built in March of 1965 and was delivered to Platte Motors, Douglas Wyoming on April 16th, 1965 and was picked up by the original owner on May 6, 1965. I have seen reference to production numbers that indicate only 1038 of these were made before the Caprice was retooled for the 1966 models. What makes this car even more rare is that this Caprice, unlike most, was not a highly optioned car. I have an unbelievable amount of documentation with this car including the original bill of sale, "Owner Protection Plan" book with Protect-O-Plate and a hand written journal of every detail of the cars history from first oil change! (and most all of the receipts for work done...even gasoline receipts) The car spent the majority of its life in Longmont, Colorado, preserved by the original owner for the first 42 years before I had the car shipped to be placed in my custody. Perhaps the most amazing piece of originality is that I have the original 4 keys...in the original dealer provided flip-out-case WITH all 4 of the keys still having the key ID knockouts in place! Original front license plate spacers are still with the car.
This is a cash only sale, the funds must be in my account before the car will be released for transport. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of these rare beauties, I look repeatedly for these cars on most all sales platforms and almost never see a 1965. Shipping must be arranged by the buyer at their expense. The vehicle is for sale locally, auction may end early due to local sale.
Bid with confidence!
I will do my best to answer questions every evening.
Details of the car:
· 1965 Chevrolet Caprice VIN #164395S201818
§ Options:
· Color Evening Orchid (all factory paint, no body work was ever done on this car)
· Black Vinyl Top (original and perfect)
· Deluxe Seatbelts
· Padded instrument panel (in perfect original condition)
· Front Bumper Guard
· Tinted glass
· AM Radio with rear speaker and fender antenna (radio works when it wants)
· The gentleman that ordered this car wanted the upgraded luxury of the Caprice but had a strict budget so the above list were the only options that he ordered. The lack of options makes this car even more rare.
· 283 V8
· 3 Speed manual on the column (rare)
· Manual brakes (stops easily)
· Manual steering (not difficult)
· No outside Mirrors...either side!
§ I find this to be the rarest thing about the car, it was an option and he didn't want to spend the money!
· The car has a 1965 dealer replaced thermostatically controlled radiator fan, the original owner said it was too noisy with the original fixed 4 blade fan but I have the original 4 blade fan in pristine condition.
Things I have done since I have owned the car:
· Replaced all 5 tires with modern radials (I still have the 1971 Michelin tires, if you want them, not worn, just age)
· V Belt, Hoses Points, Plugs and Condenser
· Fuel Pump
· Radiator re-cored (I had the original tanks reused and just new triple core installed), you can not buy a radiator for this car that is for a manual transmission so as to preserve the originality I had it re-cored)Note, never overheated it just began to leak while sitting one winter.
· Carburetor professionally rebuilt
· New rear springs (I have the originals if you want them)
· Exhaust replaced
· All of the original steel wheels were bead blasted and repainted as well as the original brake drums (that were in pristine condition), this was done at the time the new tires were installed.
· New Shock Absorbers
