Car description

1981 Monte Turbo Coupe in good condition, $7900 Or Best Offer. RARE car, only 3027 Turbo Coupes were built in 1981! This one has T-Tops, Landau padded vinyl half-roof, NASCAR "Checkered Flag" wheels (only offered on Monte Carlo's in early 80's), Air Conditioning, AM/FM/Cassette stereo (works fine). ORIGINAL and unmolested, a time capsule from 1981!
I bought it 10 years ago out of a barn - it had been sitting there for 16 years. We wanted to re-live our youth - a 1981 outfitted identical to this one (except it had the small V8) was our first brand new car. When I found this one, and learned how rare the Turbo Coupe is, I couldn't resist. Now we are on to other projects, time to let someone else enjoy this one!
Shows under 20K miles, don't know for sure if its 20K or 120K but the wear parts were all in good shape when I got it - pedals, seats, arm rests, steering wheel, etc so could be low mileage. NO RUST anywhere on it and shows stickers in driver's door where it was rust-proofed and paint protected when new.
In fact, all we did was shampoo and wipe down the interior - dash, seats, carpets, all in brand new condition!
Turbo Coupe has the Buick 231 cubic inch V6 with 4 barrel carburetor and turbo charger. Same engine that Buick used in the Regal Turbo and eventually with fuel injection in the Grand National. Chevy put this engine in the Monte Carlo and got within 20 horsepower of the same year Corvette!
We went through top half of engine, it was all in good shape. Replaced gaskets, rebuilt Turbo, found a New Old Stock original carburetor from '81 still new in box. Added an aftermarket boost gauge under dash so we could monitor our success. Flush/fill/filter on transmission. Starts and runs like new!
Replaced shocks/struts, had ball joints and tie rod ends checked, front end aligned.
Had the checkered flag rims restored by professional rim shop, they machined a fresh surface and re-coated them. Look like brand new! Added a fresh set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A's with raised white letters.
T-Tops do not leak, are quiet on the road, and still have the original GM storage bags in trunk.
Only issue is she could use a paint job. While sitting in the barn something dripped on the hood and ate the paint off in spots along a line on the drivers side. Otherwise paint shines but shows the nicks and scratches that come with 37 years of age.
Recently had the AC converted to R134, new compressor, accumulator, orifice and flushed everything out before adding new oil and refrigerant - blows nice and cold.
Includes jack and associated parts but no spare. Includes owners manuals, shop manuals, aftermarket car cover.
Clean Minnesota title in my name - I moved to Texas a few years back but since we still had a place up north and their collector plates never expire, we left it titled there. If you are a Texas buyer I'll get it inspected here for you prior to pick up.
Ready for the next owner to enjoy - reliable enough to drive cross country. Available to pick up or I'll work with your shipper to get it to them and loaded.
