Collector Liquidating Collection1970 Chevy Corvette Stingray RoadsterPower SteeringPower BrakesNon A/C car.
Only 2 Owners since new. (Myself being owner #2)I purchased the car from Charles Murphy, of Twentynine Palms, CA...a lifelong Marine that kept the car in his garage off base. Chuck had the car repainted in 2001, shortly before I bought it, in PPG Base/Clear, and the workmanship was and still is stellar today.
#'s Matching everything except the alternator.Partial VIN on stamp pad.Assembled January 28,1970, at the Flint, MI plant, which is about 2 weeks before the car was assembled, which makes sense, broach marks present. The block casting # is 3970010 Head Casting # is 3927186 Intake Casting #3965577 The dates are all a 2-3 day spread.
89,000 Careful Miles (real miles)I have a plethora of service invoices dating back to 1970 to document mileage.
Drivetrain has been resealed but not restored!Valve seals have been done, water pump rebuilt, fan clutch rebuilt, carburetor rebuilt, front/rear sealsreplaced, oil pan gasket, intake gaskets, timing chain, oil pump. Trans has a fresh service and few front/rear seals and went ahead and replaced the clutch pack. Original 3.08 Posi was resealed and shimmed, trailing arms rebuilt, rear spring re-arched. New GM rotors, stainless steel sleeved calipers, new BFG Radial T/A's with "road force balancing". 4 wheel computer alignment. Parking brake shoes relined. This is a "small list", off of memory, I have more than a few cars...hard to remember everything! Car always starts right up into a quiet rumble, after about 30 seconds, a quick jab of the throttle pulls it off high idle. No smoke...shaking, ect. Brakes are true, car drives hands off straight, trans is firm, kicks down properly, and this car is no slouch!
Car is a absolutely "No-Hit" car.All bonding strips are in place, undisturbed, no patchwork at all in any corners, wheel arches are clean, nose has never been disturbed. Chrome and brightwork are all in real nice shape, no dents, dings, or major defects in the stainless or bumpers. Neverreplated orrepros on the car.
One high quality repaint in 2000, Correct Color, Bridgehampton BlueNot a scuff and shoot, but a strip and repaint in PPG base/clear, in the correct code and color, excellent depth, no orange peel at all, I think there may be one or two very minor scratches on the car...and one or two minute chips...no stress cracking...and we are talking about 18 yearoldpaint here! Trim Tag code 979.
Blue Interior is 100% original and looks beautiful! The interior on my Stingray I believe to be 100% original, and candidly looks fantastic and not dried out, good seat support, no seat bun degradation, fading, ect. Everything works, all gauges, lights, signals, wiper door, fiber optics on the lights, HVAC, ect. The "door ajar"light just starting flickering once in a while, likely a door pin switch. No rips, seam splits, ect. Carpet is original and has held up remarkably well. The glass is all original with no scratches..."Astro Ventilation" hallmarked side widows. Window to convertible top fitment is excellent. Most of the weatherstripping is original, and in remarkable shape. Thats not to say its perfect, but very littledegradation. The convertible top is 100% original, and in good shape for being 48 years old. Not shrunk, dry, ect. The rear window has a "hint" of yellow patina...but only a hint, and fits the car well, I would NOT replace the top..One of the nicest driving C3 I've ever driven!I've driven candidly 100 C3 Corvettes in my life...some felt like fillings were falling out of my teeth...others rattled so bad from abuse, weak frames...and others darted from side to side while brakingbecauseone caliper or another was alwaysleaking. This car, with its perfect frame, birdcage, and body mounts, and the fact that it has never been apart, just drives like a new Corvette, it is in the top 3 of the tightest C3's I've driven. If I could value the car on driving experience, I'd be in good shape, unfortunately...they all look shiny in pictures...but most have degraded body mounts...(try replacing body mounts on one of these, turns into a frame off restoration half the time...its a nightmare) The frames are also boxed, and rust from the inside out, becoming thin, and flex...thats why these cars get thereputation of riding like pickup trucks! This cars'frame and birdcage are immaculate.
Tank Sticker still on TANK!One day, while avoiding my wife and hiding out in the garage, I pulled aside the rubber boot around the fuel filler, a flashlight showed me the half folded, but legible tank sticker...now the gas tank has never been out of this car, and it's not a 427/435hp 67 so I decided to leave it where it is...and that is where it is today...I posted a picture of it.
Overall, you've got a very interesting mix of a very original, babied car, but that has been sorted out, so you don't have to do anything but drive it. I'm a very fanatical owner...everything must fit properly, and must work! (These old C3's tend to make life difficult that way). This car looks excellent, runs anddrives even better, with excellent pedigree, documentation, etc. This would be the C3 to buy that you'dnever lose money on.
I invite you to bring your Corvette expert to challenge this car, it does not disappoint, a perfect, restored car...no! But a honest, original unmolested piece ready to offer years of drama free service, yep!
I'm a NCRS member, vintage car enthusiast and long timecollector of very honest cars...and unfortunately, due to space restraints, I have got to let a few pieces go. I own this car and all my cars outright, they are titled and insured and registered. I'm interested in cash in person offers, out of town buyers...wire transfers are fine. Cashiers Checks must clear my bank for 5 business days before car or title leaves my property. I am happy to assist with shipping if you so choose, I have shippers that Iregularly use andrecommend. However, understand that this car can be driven across the Country tomorrow, and if you have the time...and the aspiration, drive it home! I have this car listed on other sites, forums, and media. This auction will be ended in the event that a sale is reached outside of eBay. Please don'task "what other cars do you have for sale?" When I decide to sell something...I'll list it. I am absolutely not interested in any trades, I need the space. Lowball offers will be ignored. Idon't "need" the money, at the same time Ibought these cars years ago and am not looking to turn a huge profit, this is a hobby, let's keep it fun. At the same time, I know what the car is worth, Haggerty Price Guides are absolutely wishful thinking. I'm a reasonable person, and will entertainreasonable offers.
