Early C3’s in exceptional condition are all the rage now, so get yoursbefore they skyrocket in value! This is one such example of a beautiful, chrome bumper Corvette. It’s a 1972 model…the final year ofproduction before the rubber bumper cars came into play, showing77,xxx miles on the odometer. This one is finished in its originalshade of Elkhart Green Metallic coupled with a Dark Saddle interior…astriking color combination that grabs attention wherever I drive it.Approximately 6 years ago the exteriorwas stripped to bare fiberglass and repainted in its factory correctcolor of Elkhart Green Metallic. The paint is gorgeous, shines brilliantly and the metallicflakes glisten under the sun. I rate the paint a 9.5/10….it has one ortwo very very minor imperfections that even the hi-resolution cameradidn’t pick up. One small blemish of note in the brightwork is a 2-inch long dent in the driver side rear bumper. I was going to replace both of the original bumpers, but it was not a big enough blemish to bother me that much.
The interior is beautiful, featuring new Al Knoch vinyl seatcovers and new carpets. Everything in the interior is bone stock, justthe way that it should be! The weatherstripping is all very flexible andin great shape, the windows roll up and down as they should, and thecar drives with no unusual noises, squeaks or rattles. The weatherstripping is all very soft and in great shape. All of the bodypanels are smooth with no waves, all of the body panel gapsand shut lines are extremely nice; as nice or better than any that I’ve seen. Nothing is misalignedor weird….pretty rare for a fiberglass car! Truly an amazing car, anda testament to General Motors’ quality.
The original 4-speed transmission shifts silky smooth and features anupgraded Hurst shift mechanism, and coupled to the original shiftstalk, with the reverse lever retained too for that original look andfeel. The rear axle has been upgraded to 4:11 gearing.
The engine shows a matching numbers 350 base motor, the original stampings are there as are factory broach marksattesting to its originality. However, the engine has been completelyrebuilt and upgraded with aluminum Trick Flow heads, a Comp Cam,Edelbrock intake manifold and carb, HEI ignition (retaining the original mechanical tach drive),exhaust headers, and numerous other upgrades resulting in adyno test of 275 HP at the rear wheels. With the performance engine build and the 4:11 axlegearing, the car is very quick and strong. It starts and runsbeautifully with no smoke or unusual noises, and sounds terrific through the high performance exhaust.
The underside of the car is very clean with no rot or any issues, nosign of any accident damage at all. It features a new exhaust systemand refreshed suspension bushings for a very smooth and compliantride. The braking system has been refreshed with new calipers, parkingbrake shoes, mechanisms and cables. The parking brake system work great....the system on most C3's don't work at all!
All of the vacuum systems work perfectly too; the headlights go up anddown in unison and without any hesitation, the windshield wipers anddoor work perfectly and smoothly, the interior instruments all workproperly as do all of the lighting systems, signals, interior lights, etc. The t-top bags are in the car too!
Overall, this car is wonderful to drive, it’s powerful, turns andstops great, looks amazing, and offers the occupants a very tight yetcomfortable driving experience.
Documentation for this car is amazing too: I have a binder containingthe original tank sticker, numerous receipts for work done, as well ascopies of DMV records for EVERY owner since the day it was deliveredto its first owner at the dealership! The documentation for this caris the envy of every classic Corvette owner! The car is currently
legally registered and titled with the DMV in my name and is drivenevery nice weekend.
Check out the plentiful photos which speak for themselves. Nothing tohide here, this car is OUTSTANDING!
